About Sophie
I've been playing the violin for most of my life — I started at the age of three and have never really put it down since. I hold an AMusA (Associate in Music, Australia) diploma with High Distinction, have played in orchestras and bands, and I have ten years of teaching experience, from complete beginners to more experienced players working towards specific goals.
I'm especially passionate about teaching adults. So often, adults who want to learn an instrument feel like lessons are designed for someone else — for children with hours of free time, or for people aiming to become professional musicians. I don't teach that way. I teach real people with real, busy lives.
What matters most to me is that you actually enjoy the process and stick with it. That means realistic practice plans built around the time you genuinely have, lessons tailored to your specific goals, and repertoire chosen because you'll love playing it.
Learning as an adult is entirely possible, and genuinely rewarding — and I'll make sure the journey fits around your life, not the other way around.

I teach violin online for adults who've always wanted to learn — whether you're a complete beginner, returning after years away, or coming from another instrument and want to add violin to your repertoire.
My approach is built around the fact that most adults have busy lives and need lessons and practice plans designed around real life, not an idealised one. Rather than assuming you have an hour a day to practise, I build every lesson and practice plan around whatever time you genuinely have — even if that's just 10 minutes, three times a week.
Every lesson is tailored to you — your goals, your pace, and the music you actually want to play. Whether you're dreaming of a particular classical piece, a film theme, or a folk tune, I'll work it into your learning so you're always progressing towards music you genuinely enjoy.
For beginners, lessons are 30 minutes, once a week over Zoom — long enough to make real progress, short enough to fit around life. For intermediate players, I'd recommend 45 minutes once a week to allow more time for repertoire and technique together.
I'm a qualified violinist (AMusA, awarded with High Distinction) with ten years of teaching experience. I've played the violin for most of my life, and that lifelong relationship with the instrument shapes how I teach — I understand both the beginner's perspective and what it takes to keep growing as a player.
I'll meet you exactly where you are on your violin journey, whether that's never having held a violin before, or picking it back up after a long break. If you're an adult looking for a tailored approach, these lessons are for you.
