About Kirsten

I have been teaching private lessons for two years, and I have had over twenty students. My approach to teaching is spending the first lesson outlining the student's goals and purposes for pursuing voice lessons. From there, we work on the "problem" areas to create a cohesive, supported sound. It is up to the student to decide where he or she wants to take these lessons. I am merely here to guide and assure you achieve all of your musical goals.

Many of my students have participated in talent shows and vocal competitions with favorable results. They have gone on to pursue music professionally or have made it a huge part of their social life, and a hobby.

About the lesson

I am a recent college graduate with a Bachelor's of Music. Now that I am out of school, I am interesting in building my own business as a private voice and piano instructor. I am also interested in tutoring students in music theory. Students of all age rends and varying musical ability - from novice to advanced - are welcome to pursue lessons with me. My goal is to help students discover their inner musician, to be the best they can be with such a sacred and beautiful art form. Whether it is a hobby or a profession, I welcome anyone who is interested in developing and improving their musical ability. I am also willing to teach any genre!

When it comes to teaching voice and piano, I use classical technique. Do not worry, though! I will not turn you into an opera diva or classical pianist. I prefer teaching using classical technique, because it provides the best foundation for proper and healthy singing and piano playing. From there, we can build your sound and solidify your unique talents and qualities. As far as music theory goes, it is all about listening and I will work with students to help them understand how to use their ears to identify musical sounds and written notation.

I consider myself a hands-on teacher. I love movement and visual learning when it comes to voice and piano. While there may not be as much movement with piano, singing requires the student to understand how his or her body functions to produce a healthy, supported sound. I will work with my students in helping them understand what to feel in their bodies to know that they are singing appropriately.
