About M Belen

Hello everyone! I am Belen, a vocal coach with a rich background as a singer and musical theatre performer both in America and Europe. Trained in New York and London, I am passionate about sharing my knowledge and helping others grow as singers.
I believe art is transformative and that everyone can learn to sing. My classes focus on vocal technique and personal artistic growth, helping students feel confident in their own voice whether it's their first time singing or their already have experience.

About the lesson

Vocal lessons for all levels and ages – because everyone can sing!

The class format includes vocal and breathing techniques, repertoire, and interpretation.
We will focus on both sung and spoken voice technique, as well as the development of confidence,interpretation, and emotion through song, aiming to help each student improve the quality and performance of their voice.
The classes are designed for all levels, providing tools and training for those who are beginning their artistic journey and discovering their voice, as well as for those with experience who want to continue refining their instrument.
The goal is to achieve an understanding of the voice as an expressive instrument in a healthy and conscious way, progressively understanding the physical, mental, and emotional developmental processes of this instrument.
Additionally, we aim to stimulate the sensory capacity and connection with sound, phonation, and expression.

Perfect! I had my first meeting with M Belen and was quite nervous to begin with, but she was incredibly warm, supportive, and understanding. She made me feel relaxed and comfortable right away.

I also really liked her thoughtful approach to the lessons, including starting with stretching and relaxation exercises for the body and vocal cords before singing.

It was a lovely first impression, and I'm definitely looking forward to starting lessons with M Belen!

When did you first develop a passion for music and your favourite instrument?
I think I developed a passion for music when I was a kid. My afternoons consisted of organizing small concerts and dance shows for my grandparents in their living room. I remember my grandma used to take me to concerts and musicals when I was around 4 years old, and from a young age all I wanted was to be on stage.
Is there a particular type of music or artist that you listen to on a loop without it driving you crazy?
At the moment, Freddie Mercury, Yo-Yo Ma and the Hadestown album. I could listen to these artists 24/7 and every time find something new that surprises me and inspires me in their way of composing.
Explain to us the most difficult or riveting course you could personally give to a student of music.
I believe it's important to help them understand that our voice functions as a whole. We shouldn't just consider the technical aspects, but also understand that we must take care of our body to take care of our voice. Our voice can be affected by tension, emotions, stress, and fatigue. We must understand that vocal and physical health are essential to maintaining a healthy instrument.
What do you think is the most complicated instrument to master and why?
The voice. Unlike other instruments where we can clearly see the strings or the notes we are playing, in the case of the voice, since we cannot physically see our vocal cords and in many cases not even feel them, we have to do a much more detailed work of perception and be in tune with ourselves. Our physicality, our concentration and our sensoriality come into play at a much sharper and more intense level.

For this same reason, I also believe that studying the voice is one of the most fascinating things a musician or artist can do.
What are your keys to success?
Perseverance and courage. I don’t believe that there are people who are born with talent or not. I believe that what makes us better is practice, discipline, perseverance and also the courage to try something new.
Name three musicians you dream of meeting in your favourite bar in the early hours of the morning. Explain why.
As I mentioned before, Freddie Mercury as my first choice, Charly García (in my opinion a revolutionary of Latin American music) and Anaïs Mitchell.

I think what they have in common is that they have created a different and timeless style of music (each in their own time and circumstances), and I would like to ask them what they think the world needs now creatively and musically.
Provide a valuable anecdote related to music or your days at music school.
Something I remember from my first day at university was when the head of the vocal department told us that we should always remember the 4 P’s. First for Passion and 3 for Practice, practice, practice!
What are the little touches that make you a Superprof in music?
I truly and deeply believe that everyone can sing. I think my approach, besides being technical, also tries to understand the voice in an emotional way without forgetting the human side.

What I try to expand in my classes is to practice kindness, as singing can be quite a vulnerable space, not only for beginners but also for intermediate and advanced students.
