About Oberon

I am a current student at Victoria University of Wellington and, while my current Bachelor is Media Studies, English has always been my strongest subject. I've always loved to read and I've always liked to help others. I also did debating all through high school as my favorite extracurricular. I want to help others do the best they can in their exams and on assessments. Talking about books and the ideas therein is something I do in my own time as well as something I had to do for exams and assessments, so I’m no stranger to ranting about what’s good or bad about a book.
A few of my favourite books are actually a part of the NCEA curriculum as well, such as The Great Gatsby, The Handmaids Tale, and To Kill A Mockingbird. Station Eleven is another one of my favourites too! In my Year 13, my English teacher was this wonderfully whacky woman who I got along with quite well, and our film was Parasite, which was quite interesting to study. I’m no stranger to the NCEA curriculum or the books and films used for assessments. Unfamiliar was something I wasn’t too shabby at, with a mostly Excellence mark whenever I did an exam on it. I prefer to stick to essays though, as I enjoy reading books quite a bit.

About the lesson

I can help any student with essay writing, exam prep, their chosen books and films, and general English literature. I am fun, a little outlandish, relatable, and more than happy to read or watch whatever you're studying. I will teach in accordance to what any student wants to learn, and will make the effort to connect with them and strive to help with their studies.
A typical lesson would look like about five minutes of settling in and going over what the student wants to look at for the session. Then we’d move on to breaking down their chosen topic. For example, if a student needed help with essay writing, we’d go over what points they want to make in the essay, how to write a short, concise introduction that includes all these points, paragraph styles and structure, and how to conclude an essay. I would guide the student and answer any questions, as well as go over the material they’re studying alongside them and in my free time to have a better grasp of what they’re studying.
