About Tracy
I’m Tracy Leigh, also known as Dr. Stitch, a lifelong designer and sewing educator with a passion for the fine art of custom garment creation. For over 40 years, I’ve specialized in crafting couture wedding gowns, bridesmaid dresses, prom and evening wear, pageant gowns, christening and communion dresses, flower girl attire, youth dance costumes, infant and preemie gowns, baby blankets, and so much more.
My signature expertise lies in design, bridal couture, intricate beading, and fine handwork, the details that bring timeless elegance to every creation, turning heirloom or store-bought gowns into one-of-a-kind couture pieces that capture each client’s unique vision, personality, and silhouette. Every stitch reflects both craftsmanship and care.
I also specialize in transforming wedding gowns into christening gowns that preserve the beauty and sentiment of the original design or lovingly redesigning donated gowns into bereavement gowns for infants in local hospitals, a heartfelt ministry that touches many lives.
Whether creating, transforming, or restoring a garment, my goal is always the same: to blend artistry, compassion, and precision so each piece tells its own story, one that’s as beautiful and enduring as the person it’s made for.
One of my favorite moments in my career was featured on my Designs by Tracy Leigh WeddingWire page that shows the photos of an emergency bridal gown rescue the night before her wedding. In tears, she entrusted me with hergown. With just hours to spare, I worked through the night, hand-stitching, repairing lace, and adding discreet inner fabric panels to restore modesty and reshaping the fit entirely by hand. The next morning, I delivered a flawless gown and was met with a standing ovation from her bridal party, turning a crisis into joy with skilled artistry under pressure.
In addition to couture design, I offer private sewing lessons in Scottsdale, Phoenix, Mesa, Gilbert, and Chandler, Arizona, as well as online.
My mobile alteration service, “Have Pins, Will Travel,” brought professional tailoring directly to the comfort of your home. I handled wardrobe clean-outs, clothing repairs, and custom fittings for men, women, children, and uniforms, often with same-day or next-day turnaround available 24/7. I also provide on-site alterations for conventions and events, and weight-loss alterations, allowing clients to “let their clothing shrink one size at a time” while saving money as they reach their goals.
Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of working with the Oprah Winfrey/Carson Kressley Show as a mobile seamstress during a local makeover reveal at the Wrigley Mansion. I’ve also completed large-scale fabric restoration projects, including repairing the Marriott Hotel’s 40’ × 30’ custom ballroom drapes Scottsdale and reweaving fabric for church pews and venue chairs. Simply put, there’s no project I won’t tackle.
My passion now lies in teaching the fine art of sewing. I love sharing my years of experience and passing on the skills, techniques, and confidence that transform fabric into something truly extraordinary. I welcome students of all ages, from beginners discovering the joy of sewing to those refining advanced couture techniques. I offer private sewing lessons in Scottsdale, Phoenix, Mesa, Gilbert, and Chandler, Arizona, as well as online, so students everywhere can learn at their own pace and bring their creative visions to life.
Beyond sewing, I spent 16 years homeschooling my three daughters (now 22, 29, and 31). My life and work are guided by faith and compassion — I serve as a Grief Share and SYMBIS Facilitator, Mental Health Coach, and First Responder with the American Association of Christian Counselors. I hold credentials in BHT, ABA, AHA BLS, CPR, AED, and First Aid, maintain a Level 1 Fingerprint Clearance Card, and am a graduate of CFTN School of Ministry, Charis Bible College, and a licensed minister.
Every thread I sew carries a story of beauty, transformation, and purpose. My mission is to help others rediscover confidence, creativity, and joy through the art of sewing. ~ "Designs by Me" - Tracy Leigh

About the Lesson
Every class is tailored to you, your goals, your pace, and your level of experience. Whether you’re brand new to sewing or ready to refine advanced couture techniques, each lesson is designed to build confidence, creativity, and lifelong skill.
Lessons can be held in my home to see my sewing space set up or your home so you can learn in the space where you’ll continue to create. If you don’t already have a dedicated sewing area, I’ll help you design one, no matter the size of your space, so it’s inspiring, comfortable, and ready for you to sew whenever inspiration strikes.
Sewing can feel intimidating at first, but with patient, hands-on guidance, you’ll quickly gain the skills and confidence to tackle any project. I’m available to my students 24 hours a day, offering help and encouragement by text, phone, or Messenger, even during those quiet late-night hours when creativity flows and you get “stuck” mid-project. My response time is typically within two hours, or, even sooner if working on an important project, ensuring you’re never left without support.
Together, we’ll explore visual thinking, practical strategies, and creative problem-solving, all while keeping your progress beautifully organized in a Sewing Journal & Memory Portfolio. You’ll receive a PDF copy of your “Designed by Me Journal” workbook pages, where you will hold your samples, create a mood board, record notes, sketches, and inspiration, and chart your growth as a designer.
If you’re new to sewing, our first class can begin at the fabric store, the perfect place to learn about fabrics, notions, and tools. You’ll receive your Ultimate Sewing Kit checklist, a guide to everything you’ll need now and as you advance in your sewing journey.
As your skills grow, so will your portfolio. You’ll learn how to translate your ideas from sketch to pattern to finished garment. And if you decide to take your new passion public as a designer or a teacher, I’ll help you create a free starter website to showcase your work and launch your own clothing line or launch your own sewing classes.
I offer private and small group sewing classes for all ages and skill levels, each designed to inspire creativity and build confidence. Group projects are carefully chosen based on the students’ experience and abilities, ensuring that everyone learns, succeeds, and enjoys the process.
I also provide alteration classes, where you’ll learn how to breathe new life into garments you already own, transforming them into perfectly fitted pieces and expanding your wardrobe with custom creations made by you.
Gift certificates are available for birthdays, holidays, and special occasions, a thoughtful way to share the gift of creativity with someone special.
You are worth the investment in a lifetime of creative freedom. Sewing empowers you to design, draft patterns, and create clothing and home décor projects that beautifully reflect your personal style, skill, and vision, all crafted by your own hands.
I look forward to meeting you, sharing my passion for sewing, and helping you discover your hidden talent as you create your own portfolio of beautiful, one-of-a-kind designs. ~ Tracy Leigh
