About Cyndy

My passion for teaching began while in High School. I attended Macarthur Girls’ High School in Parramatta, Sydney, Australia. After leaving school I undertook a three-year course to gain a Diploma of Teaching from Sydney Teachers’ College, Australia. When I arrived in Malaysia I began volunteer work at a tutoring center in Penang which reignited my passion for teaching and I enrolled with The TEFL Academy to gain a Level 5 Certificate in Teaching English as a Foreign Language. I have been tutoring foreign students in English as a Second Language since 2016. My students range in age from 4 years old to 11 years old and come from Japan, China, Korea and Malaysia. Teaching English as a second language has many challenges. Students have varying backgrounds, language levels and goals. Students are often afraid of making mistakes or are anxious about speaking English. This requires flexibility and responsiveness from the teacher. I love teaching and interacting with children of all ages. I can provide recommendations if required.

About the lesson

I am a trained English teacher who excels in tutoring young students from 4 years old. I have been tutoring English as a Second Language since 2016. My students range in age from 4 years old to 11 years old. I have Level 5 Certificate in Teaching English as a Foreign Language from the TEFL Academy. I use interactive software designed to build strong foundational skills for young learners. The curriculum begins at Nursery Level onto Level 3 and focuses on building the core language skills – Vocabulary, Speaking, Phonics, Reading, and Writing to help young learners become fluent speakers of English. Each level consists of engaging digital programs supported by activity books for the students to keep. Due to differing motor skills and attention span needed for tasks in each level I offer a free pre-test to determine the best level for students to begin. When students have completed the Early English program they can then move onto Active English which is structured to help students develop their skills in reading, writing, speaking, and listening. Grammar focuses on verb tenses, sentence formation and punctuation. The vocabulary exercises introduce new words and phrases. Speaking and listening exercises encourage students to practice their pronunciation and communication skills. Lessons are typically 2 hours. I am able to teach in your home, online or at my home.
