About Abi
I care a lot about education, but most especially, in the way in which students learn and retain all they've learnt. Mathematics is a particular passion for me.
Living in a world where students have been negatively convinced that they are incapable of doing well in academics, I endeavour to help students gain confidence in their own mathematical ability.
I began tutoring 9 years ago, whilst I was in College, before going into University. On getting to University, I studied Chemistry. After finishing, I began working in Mainstream Schools, to get a more hands on experience. I worked in primary, secondary and post 16 education- as well as in SEN Schools.
Having had extensive experience in teaching at various charity and their education departments, I enjoyed teaching Maths GCSE, Functional Skills Maths and English, from entry level to level 2. Seeing the progress students made also encouraged me to give my all during the sessions.
I am very patient and empathetic to my student's needs and once their confidence is heightened, I encourage them to constantly challenge themselves and aim higher.

My teaching method takes a lot into consideration. There's an holistic approach to each student's learning and I believe it is of vital importance to get to know how each of my student learn best, so that each can thrive to the best of their ability. One student might learn best with pictures, another might prefer auditory learning. I endeavour to find a way to integrate such approaches into my teaching.
I use my first session to understand the needs of students. At the end of the session, I have a consolidation session with the student and/or their guardians. I use these conversations to listen to the concerns of the pupils and/or their guardians and present an outline of my assessment of the student's areas of strengths and weaknesses. I also suggest a course of action and a target to help the pupil move forward.
It is important to me that students should enjoy mathematics and look forward to their sessions with me. To ensure this, I use a variety of different resources to explain concepts to students. I believe in linking the mathematics that we study to the real world to increase students engagement with the topic and their understanding of its relevance.
