About Freya

I am a singing tutor with over 8 years of teaching experience. I work with students of all levels, from beginners who have never sung before to advanced performers preparing for auditions. I have successfully taught between 200 and 300 students across different age groups and backgrounds. Many of my students have cleared graded exams with distinction, won competitions, and performed confidently on stage. Some have even gone on to pursue music professionally. My teaching philosophy is centered on compassion, empathy, flexibility, and clear communication. I believe that every voice is unique and has its own potential. My job is to help students discover and develop that potential in a way that feels natural and enjoyable. I do not use a one-size-fits-all approach. I adapt my methods to suit each student's learning style, goals, and personality. I focus on building strong vocal technique through breath support, pitch accuracy, resonance, and vocal health. I also teach ear training, music theory, performance skills, and song interpretation. I encourage students to express emotion through their singing and connect with their audience. I am patient and supportive. I celebrate every small achievement and help students overcome challenges with kindness. I am proud of the growth and confidence I see in my students. My ultimate goal is to inspire a lifelong love for singing and help each student find their own voice.

My teaching approach for singing is built on five core values: compassion, empathy, flexibility, adaptation to learning styles, and communication. I believe singing is not just about technique. It is about self-expression, emotion, and connecting with others. My goal is to create a safe space where students feel comfortable to explore their voice without judgment. Compassion is central to my studio. I understand that many students feel vulnerable when they sing. I treat each student with kindness and respect. I never criticize harshly. Instead, I offer gentle guidance that helps them improve without losing confidence. Empathy allows me to understand each student's unique challenges. Some struggle with pitch. Others have stage fright or lack confidence. I listen carefully to their concerns and tailor my approach to address their specific needs. I remember my own struggles as a learner and use that to relate to them. Flexibility is key in my teaching. I do not follow a rigid curriculum. I adjust my lessons based on the student's mood, energy, and progress. If something is not working, I try a different approach. If a student is tired, we slow down. If they are excited, we push ahead. I adapt my teaching to the moment. Adaptation to learning styles is another important aspect. Some students learn best by listening and imitating. Others need visual aids like diagrams or sheet music. Some prefer hands-on practice while others like to understand theory first. I identify how each student learns and deliver lessons in that style. This makes learning faster and more enjoyable. Communication is the thread that ties everything together. I explain concepts clearly and simply. I encourage students to ask questions and express their feelings. I give honest but kind feedback. This builds trust and ensures that we are always on the same page.

My methodology covers a wide range of singing subjects. Vocal technique is the foundation. I teach breath support, posture, vocal cord closure, resonance, and vowel shaping. I use exercises that build strength and flexibility without causing strain. I also teach how to transition between registers smoothly. Ear training is included to develop pitch accuracy and listening skills. I do interval drills, matching pitches, and harmony exercises. Music theory is woven into lessons to help students understand rhythm, key signatures, and musical structure. This helps them learn new songs independently. Performance skills are a major focus. I teach stage presence, emotional connection, and how to engage an audience. We work on managing nerves and building mental resilience. Song interpretation and storytelling are central to my lessons. I help students understand the meaning behind lyrics and use dynamics, phrasing, and tone to tell the story. This makes their singing more authentic and moving.

Vocal health is always addressed. I teach proper warm-ups, cool-downs, hydration, and recognizing signs of vocal fatigue. I help students develop good habits to prevent injury. Diction and articulation are covered to ensure clarity in different languages. I also include improvisation and style exploration. I teach runs, riffs, and ornamentation for pop and R&B. For classical, I focus on purity of tone and phrasing. This helps students discover their unique voice. Recording and playback are used during lessons for self-assessment. Each lesson follows a clear flow. We begin with physical and vocal warm-ups, move to technical exercises, then apply techniques to chosen songs. I end with a review and a practice plan. I adjust my approach based on regular assessments. My aim is to produce singers who are technically skilled, emotionally expressive, and confident in their voice.
