About Ignacio

Hi! My name is Nachito Colon, a professional salsa dancer, performer, and instructor with over 20 years of dance experience. I began dancing at the age of 4 and discovered my passion for salsa when I was 7. Since then, dance has become both my career and my way of life.

I am proud to be a 7-time world champion salsa dancer and currently teach at Iroko Dance Academy in Tampa, Florida. Throughout my career, I have had the opportunity to perform and teach at salsa congresses, festivals, and events around the world, sharing my passion for dance with students of all levels.

My dance style is heavily influenced by Salsa On2 (New York Style), combined with strong foundations in body movement, musicality, and Afro-Cuban influences. I believe that great dancing comes from understanding the music, having strong technique, and expressing yourself naturally through movement.

As an instructor, my mission is to help students develop confidence, technique, and a deeper connection with the music. I enjoy working with beginners who are just starting their dance journey, as well as experienced dancers who want to refine their skills and elevate their performance.

Teaching allows me to share not only the steps of salsa, but also the culture, rhythm, and passion behind the dance.

Whether your goal is to learn how to dance socially, improve your skills, or train at a higher level, I’m excited to help guide you on your dance journey.

About the lesson

My lessons are designed to help students build confidence, strong fundamentals, and a real understanding of salsa dancing. Whether you are a complete beginner or an experienced dancer, I tailor each lesson to your level, goals, and learning style.

In my classes, we focus on the key elements that make a great dancer: technique, musicality, body movement, timing, and connection. I break down movements step-by-step so they are easy to understand and apply on the dance floor. My goal is not just to teach steps, but to help you feel the music and move naturally with it.

For beginners, we start by building a solid foundation—learning the basic steps, rhythm, posture, and coordination. This helps students feel comfortable and confident while dancing socially. For more advanced dancers, lessons can focus on improving body movement, styling, partnerwork, performance quality, and musical interpretation.

I specialize in Salsa On2 (New York Style) and incorporate elements of Afro-Cuban movement, musicality training, and performance techniques that I have developed throughout my professional career.
