About Tanner

I was born in Taipei, Taiwan and grew up speaking Mandarin Chinese. I eventually moved to the United States and lived in Salt Lake City, Utah, where I graduated from Alta High School. During high school, I concurrently studied Digital Media and Film at Salt Lake Community College, as well as the University of Utah for early college immersion. Now, I am a sophomore student and double major in World Languages (Chinese & Japanese) and International Affairs at Lewis & Clark College in Portland, Oregon. Outside of the classroom, I work as a videographer for Chinese speaking communities in Los Angeles, Salt Lake City, and Portland, where I specialize in short films and commercials for local businesses and cultural centers. I'm excited to bring Chinese to interested learners and to spread this beautiful language to more people!

About the lesson

Structured lesson plan modified to best fit student needs, with time each lesson dedicated to speaking practice, learning new vocabulary, writing and reading practice, history of Chinese characters, cultural background, and listening comprehension. Students will follow the coursework for Integrated Chinese by Cheng & Tsui so they can eventually assimilate into classroom study if they are interested in advanced coursework. Lessons are meant for beginners starting from the 101 level of elementary to upper intermediate Chinese and introductory advanced readings.
