About Max

I am a dedicated and experienced pianist with over 16 years of playing experience, and a deep commitment to high-quality music education. I trained for 7 years at the Royal Academy of Music, where I developed a strong technical foundation and a refined musical understanding. I achieved Grade 8 with distinction at the age of 10 and now perform at a diploma (DipABRSM/LRSM) level.

Alongside my performing background, I have experience teaching students of different ages and abilities, and I take pride in creating lessons that are both structured and engaging. I understand that every student learns differently, and I aim to build confidence as well as ability, ensuring steady and enjoyable progress.

I am reliable, patient, and professional in my approach to teaching, and place emphasis on clear communication. Whether a student is preparing for exams or learning for personal enjoyment, I aim to provide a supportive environment where they can develop both skill and confidence at the piano.

As a recent student, I understand the struggles of interpretation, repetition and pressure, especially in the musical sphere, and aim to create a confident and comfortable environment where my students can feel there are no boundaries.

About the lesson

I take a specialised, student-focused approach to my teaching, with the aim of building strong technical foundations and a genuine enjoyment of music. My lessons are structured but flexible, adapting to student’s individual goals—whether that involves progressing through graded exams, developing performance skills, or simply playing for enjoyment.

In lessons, I focus on a balance of technique, musicality, and understanding. This includes developing good posture and hand position, improving tone and expression, and building confidence in reading music. As a film student, I also place emphasis on story, helping students understand the character and structure of the pieces they play rather than just learning notes, and encouraging them to attach a tale to what they are playing. For those interested, I can also incorporate elements of music theory, improvisation, and ear training.

Lessons typically last between 30 minutes and 1 hour, depending on the student’s age, level, and focus.

I have over 16 years of experience playing piano, and studied for 7 years at the Royal Academy of Music. I achieved Grade 8 with distinction at the age of 10, and currently play at approximately diploma (DipABRSM/LRSM) level. Alongside my performing background, I have teaching experience working with students of varying ages and abilities.

My lessons are suitable for a wide range of students—from complete beginners to more advanced players looking to refine their technique or prepare for exams. I teach both children and adults, and aim to create a supportive, engaging environment where students can progress with confidence.
