About Cheryl
I have been a writing teacher and personal essayist and fiction writer for over 25 years. I currently teach writing in the Division of Adult Education in the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD). My degrees are from UC Berkeley (BA) and Columbia University (MFA.) I myself am a creative writer and have had many of my personal essays published. I have helped numerous high school students with their college personal essays and these students have been accepted at top-rated universities. I use original methods -- brainstorming techniques and free-writes -- to help students dig down deep and find their own personal, idiosyncratic stories. One's personal college essay cannot read like anyone else's. It must be your own voice and experience. I also help professionals with their writing by teaching advanced grammar workshops. Many CEOs and bank presidents no not write in a way that is befitting of their top positions in companies; some do not even know correct punctuation. I can teach you to write in a more professional, dynamic manner with advanced grammar and correct punctuation. You will learn the rules for punctuation! Don't use AI and sound like a robot. Become a more confident writer by knowing how to write better. FYI, I have taught at the university level, and I am also a mother of a college student. I know the writing level that one needs to excel in college and in business.

Experienced teacher and writer who has assisted many students with their personal essays for college. I teach brain-storming techniques with the use of bubble maps to help students dig deeper and get beyond the superficial, run-of-the-mill ideas for their essays. I have also taught advanced grammar to high school students and adults. Improving one's sentence craft is essential for better writing at all levels - from business emails to essays. I am currently a teacher in the Los Angeles Unified School District. In addition, I tutor students on Zoom in afternoons and evenings. These Zoom classes and seminars focus on advanced grammar and sentence writing. Individual tutoring sessions on the college personal essay are also available.
