I believe effective tutoring is about more than simply providing answers—it is about helping students understand the material, develop strong reasoning skills, and gain the confidence to succeed independently. I meet you where you are with no judgment, and together, we move you to where you need to be.
I bring a structured, personalized approach to teaching English, business, finance, accounting, and professional writing. I work with students at the high school, AP, undergraduate, and graduate levels, as well as professionals seeking to strengthen their business communication skills.
My teaching style combines clear explanations, practical examples, guided practice, and constructive feedback. Whether we are analyzing literature, developing an academic argument, solving an accounting or finance problem, or refining an executive business document, I focus on making complex material understandable and useful.
For English students, I emphasize critical reading, analytical thinking, effective argumentation, organization, grammar, style, and precise use of evidence. For business, finance, and accounting students, I connect technical concepts to practical business situations so that students understand not only how to solve a problem, but why the solution makes sense.
I also provide business-writing instruction for professionals and international organizations, with an emphasis on clarity, professionalism, audience awareness, persuasive communication, and concise executive-level writing.
My goal is to create a supportive learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, working through difficult concepts, and learning from mistakes. I adapt my instruction to each student’s experience, objectives, and learning style.

My teaching approach
1. I start with the learner, not the textbook.
I first determine the student’s current level, what they already understand, where the gaps are, and what they need to accomplish. A high-school student preparing for AP English requires a different approach from a graduate student writing a research paper or an executive preparing a financial presentation.
2. I explain difficult material in layers.
I generally move from:
Concept → Example → Guided practice → Independent application → Feedback
For example, in English, I might first explain how an author develops an argument, then analyze a short passage together, have the student identify the technique independently, and finally ask them to incorporate the analysis into an essay.
For accounting or finance, I might begin with the underlying business concept, translate it into the relevant accounting or financial framework, work through a numerical example, and then give the student a new scenario to solve.
3. I teach the reasoning, not just the result.
If a student asks, “What’s the answer?” I want them eventually to be able to answer, “Here’s how I know.” I therefore make the underlying reasoning visible—how to identify the important information, choose an appropriate method, test the conclusion, and communicate it clearly.
High school and AP English
For high-school and AP English, I focus heavily on reading closely, constructing an argument, using evidence, and writing with precision.
Depending on the assignment, I can help students with:

I emphasize the difference between identifying a literary or rhetorical technique and actually explaining its significance. A sophisticated English response should generally move beyond “the author uses imagery” to explaining what the imagery accomplishes and how it contributes to the author’s larger purpose.
Undergraduate and graduate English
At the college and graduate levels, I raise the level of abstraction and independence.
Rather than simply correcting prose, I help students develop an argument, methodology, scholarly voice, and coherent structure. That can include:
* Research questions and thesis formation
* Literature reviews
* Critical analysis
* Argumentation
* Academic research
* Source evaluation
* Citation and attribution
* Paragraph and section architecture
* Graduate-level scholarly writing
* Editing for clarity and intellectual precision
* Dissertation, thesis, and research-paper development
At the graduate level especially, I distinguish between summary, analysis, synthesis, and original argument, because students often need to move from demonstrating that they understand existing scholarship to demonstrating what their own analysis contributes.
Business, finance, and accounting
My approach changes somewhat for business disciplines because students need both technical accuracy and practical interpretation.
For accounting, for example, I can approach a problem at several levels:
What is happening? → What is the accounting treatment? → Why? → How does it affect the financial statements? → What does it mean to a business decision-maker?
For finance, I similarly connect calculations to their business meaning. A formula should not be something a student merely memorizes; the student should understand what the variables represent, what assumptions underlie the calculation, and what the result tells us.
Topics can include areas such as:
* Financial accounting
* Managerial accounting
* Financial statement analysis
* Corporate finance
* Investment and valuation concepts
* Budgeting and forecasting
* Business mathematics
* Financial modeling concepts
* Business strategy
* Economics and business analysis
Business writing for international companies
This is where I place particular emphasis on clarity, audience, purpose, tone, and consequences.
Professional writing isn’t academic writing with the vocabulary changed. An executive memo, financial analysis, management presentation, client communication, and technical report each have different requirements.
I teach writers to ask:
Who is reading this?
What do they need to know?
What decision or action should follow?
What evidence supports the conclusion?
What can be eliminated?
For major international businesses, I would also pay attention to cross-cultural communication, international audiences, professional tone, ambiguity, and executive-level concision.
For example, I might take a complicated financial analysis and help transform it from a technically correct but cumbersome document into something an executive can understand quickly:
Finding → Evidence → Business implication → Recommendation/next step
The underlying technical detail remains available, but the principal message becomes immediately visible.
How I share knowledge
I think of tutoring as scaffolding. I provide more structure when someone is learning something new and gradually remove that structure as the learner becomes proficient.
I also use multiple explanations when necessary. If a student doesn’t understand a concept through a formal definition, I might explain it through an analogy, a real-world example, a visual structure, a worked problem, or a comparison with something they already understand.
Most importantly, I treat mistakes as information. A wrong answer tells us something about the student’s reasoning. Instead of simply replacing it with the correct answer, I try to identify where the reasoning diverged and use that point to strengthen the student’s understanding.
Ultimately, my objective across high school, AP, undergraduate, graduate, and professional settings is the same:
I want the learner to leave not merely knowing the answer, but knowing how to think through the problem, explain the reasoning, communicate the result, and apply the skill to the next problem.
