About Dustie
I have been teaching mathematics at multiple levels for over 20 years. I am passionate about presenting material in a way that supports my students learning in a way that supports their preferred learning style.
Most recently, I have been acting as an instructional coach, supporting teachers in refining their craft. I am a master mathematics teacher and I truly love and am passionate about what I do.
I have also tutored students from around the US online. One student was learning Algebra 1 and then Geometry and then Algebra 2 a year ahead of her same age peers (she was in New York). I also tutored upper high school students in Trigonometry and Algebra 2. There was another student from Oklahoma who struggled with Algebra 1. We got her through AND she passed. Finally I worked with a kiddo from Texas who wanted to qualify for advanced math for her next school year. We worked on Algebra 1 skills for literally 3 monts and she passed the test to get into the advanced class she wanted.

My prefered methodologies is to use the socratic method. In this way I pose a problem that students already have the knowledge to solve. This problem and the conversation that follows will drive us to a big idea, key point or even a conjecture. From there we will practice some problems together by breaking them down into manageable steps that are transferable to other similar problems and future problems from other mathematics pathways (standard clusters or domains). These problems that we do together will help solidify the key point or prove our conjecture. Then students will have some time to practice with feedback that is high leverage, bite sized and transferable. Students will work with lots of support, and a clearly defined criteria for success that applies our big idea over and over and over until the student reaches mastery.
