About David

As someone with casting experience, I've sat on the other side of the audition table. I know what casting directors are looking for in an audition and self-tape. I know what good auditions and good self-tapes look like, I know how to coach you up to that level.

In my different casting jobs my part of my job was always working with the actors. I love helping actors find the ins and outs of a piece of text and helping them find themselves in it. After almost every session I've had with actors I find that not only does the quality of their work improve, but so does their confidence in the scene. This is the part I most enjoy in coaching people.

I have worked in TV/film casting for three years in various New York casting offices. I've watched thousands of auditions for low budget indie films, network pilots, feature films, and everything in between. I know a good audition from a bad audition, a good self-tape from a bad self-tape, and I am able to coach you up from one to the other.

About the lesson

First I like to get to know the actor, understand their level of acting as well as their type/brand.

Then moving on to the tex they need prepared, I treat the session as an audition. Using my casting background we work through the matieral and I give students adjustments between each take. Adjustments can vary anywhere from discussing the general given circumstances of the scene to tweeking the delivery of a specific line, and anything in between.

Actors and aspiring actors at any level of their career. I've coached rookie actors with no experience all the way to veteran highly trained actors with strong representation. Whatever stage you're at in your career I can provide the proper coaching and technique to help you progress to the next one.

I personally feel my casting experience sets me apart from almost all other audition and acting coaches in New York. Its the kind of perspectie you want your coach to have because we've sat on the other side of the audition table. We know what the casting directors you're auditioning for want to see and can help you get there.

Having said that, audition coaching is a very personal business. You should only work with coaches with whom you feel comfortable. Someone may be an amazing coach with a fantastic resume but if you don't gel with them its not going to be helpful for you.

I recently coached two olympic atheletes who had been asked to audition for the leads of a movie about an olympic couple not unlike them. They had no acting experience to speak of but after working with me we put together a strong enough self-tape that they ended up getting a screen test out of it. It was a fantastic experience to work with people who are at the top of the game in their own world and teach them an entirely new skillset from mine.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Its always helpful if you come to us with specific goals or needs. Think about where you're at as an actor and what you're looking to improve upon. Be it a specific audition you're looking to prepare for, a specific kind of monologue you want to add to your repetoire, or anything else.
