I am a french/american certified yoga instructor living in Paris near the Sacre Coeur in the 18th district. I have lived 8 years in India and teach all levels of ashtanga vinyasa yoga in groups or private lessons both in person and on line. My certification is recognised by IPHM (International Practioners of Holistic Medecine)
My classes cover the 8 essential practices in Ashtanga yoga : rules of behavior, self-discipline, body postures, the art of breathing,
mastery of the senses, concentration, meditation and 'illumination.
1. Rules of behavior apply to your relationships with others
2. Self-discipline applies to your relationship with yourself
3. Body postures (asanas) help to energize the body, make it more flexible and bring stability and self-confidence.
4. Breath (pranayama) includes the vital breath, the length of time in a breath cycle, the restriction of breath and the expansion or stretching of breathing. Practicing pranayama helps purify the channels essential to life on earth and eliminate stress and physical and mental toxins.
5. The control of the senses (pratyahara) is the control of the senses that can lead to inner stability, this is possible by directing its concentration on the respiratory rhythm
6. Concentration (dharana) is the attention of the individual must be focused on an external object, a vibration or a rhythm within oneself.
7. Meditation (dhyana) the work on concentration allows the practice of meditation, which consists of ceasing all mental activities, where no thought exists.
8. Illumination (samadhi) this last stage constitutes the alliance between the self (atman) and the absolute (brahman), in the Buddhist philosophy it is called nirvana, it is the state of mindfulness.
The benefits of Ashtanga Yoga Ashtanga yoga can:
1. Reduce toxins: The practice of Ashtanga yoga causes an increase in the internal temperature causing an increase in perspiration. This allows the elimination of toxins from the body.
2. Strengthen the joints of the body: the use of varied and dynamic postures promotes a good functioning of the joints increasing endurance and flexibility.
3. Weight loss: A study of 14 children aged 8 to 15 years and at risk of developing type 2 diabetes showed that Ashtanga yoga was an effective ally for losing weight.
4. Reduce stress and anxiety: meditation and breathing exercises help improve stress management and reduce anxiety.
