About Francois

I'm French and Polish. I've lived in four distinct cultures (Poland, France, England and now the US). I love sharing and making music with others.

I started playing piano around the age of 8. I'm now 25.

I write and listen to a lot of orchestral music. My favorite composers are Bach, Mahler, Rachmaninoff, Ravel and Chopin.

I also listen to and play jazzzz... Chick Corea, Mccoy Tyner, Brad Mehldau are some of my favorite jazz pianists.

Finally I love Film Music. John Williams, Enio Morricone, Alexandre Desplat, John Powell come to mind.

I have worked with several music teachers throughout my life. Many of them lack passion and/or interest in sharing their musicality. They will make you play the same few notes over and over again, and after an eternity of repetition, you could now play a few seconds of foreign music, without understanding why these notes were chosen by the composer and how they work together. It's like repeating a phrase in a foreign language.

Shnour Akhalotsun (means thank you in Armenian. SO WHAT?)

Eventually, I met instructors who dissected the music language with me and showed me the intricate mechanisms that make a piece of music work. By understanding individual words, I could now make my own phrases and soon started improvising entire pieces of music.

This is how my lessons are constructed. I share individual pieces of vocabulary with you, give you examples of how to use them in a sentence after which you start implementing them in your own playing. If this is too abstract, just sign up for a free lesson and I'll show you!
