Leslie arranged these lessons for her mother Florence.

Florence's aim is to learn more vocabulary to develop better conversational and grammatical English.

Her pronunciation shows a great deal of mother tongue interference, very common in those with French for a mother tongue.

With little or no previous formal English tuition, she is keen to learn and to correct herself.

Usually, the way to deal with such a strong L1 interference is to go back to basics, but bearing in mind Florence's age and remaining time in Australia it seems best to continue to build on what she already has acquired.

After two sessions I now have a better idea of how to plan our sessions to maximise her learning for her purposes.
