About Susan
- What kind of experience do you have?
I taught English (EFL) in Germany for six years, working for private language schools, in adult education and individual tuition. I worked in a large Further Education College for 19 years as Learning Resources Manager, when I supported students with Study Skills. For the past six years, I have been working as a teacher of EFL, specialising in individual tuition, including exam preparation.

I have an up-to-date DBS certificate.
- Where and with whom did you train?
I trained as a teacher of Modern Foreign Languages (Postgraduate Certificate in Education) at the University of Roehampton. My CELTA qualification in teaching English as a Foreign Language is from City of Bristol College.
- Tell me about some of your current students.
I mainly teach individual students, some of whom are in Bristol on Homestay courses. I'm currently teaching several students for Cambridge exams and for IELTS, as well as business executives and engineers in their workplace and a class who are learning general English. I also do some voluntary teaching with refugees. I am currently teaching two teenage students in China using an online system.

I'm a CELTA-qualified, experienced teacher of English as a Foreign Language. I wIll make your lessons fun, relevant and interesting, and help you achieve your goal of improving your English or working towards an exam.
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
I teach English as a Foreign Language (EFL) at all levels, from Beginner to Advanced, and specialise in teaching individuals and small groups.
I have experience of teaching and preparing candidates for the Cambridge English exams and for IELTS.

BA honours degree in European Studies with French Language
Institute of Linguists Final Examination in German (with distinction)
Postgraduate Certificate in Education
Diploma in Library and Information Studies
Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages
- How much do you charge?
My standard rate is £26 per hour, if the lessons are in or near my home, with an additional charge of £5 for travel. I can offer you a free initial meeting to assess your needs.
- Where do you teach?
I prefer to teach in my home, but will consider travelling to your home or other premises, if in north or central Bristol.
- When are you available?
My availability is flexible, especially in the autumn and winter months, dpending on other work commitments.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
I can teach anyone from age 12 to adult.
- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
I can prepare students for EFL exams, including the Cambridge First (FCE), Cambridge Advanced (CAE) and IELTS .
- Describe your arrangements for online tutoring.
I can tutor by Skype or by Apple FaceTime, or using specialist software.
