About Michelle
Originally from near Toronto, Ontario, my career facilitating English language and literacy development has kept me on the move working within and in partnership with varied communities in Canada and across the globe. After obtaining my first degree, a B.A. in Comparative Literature and Culture, I spent several years teaching English abroad before returning to Canada to complete a Bachelor of Education specializing in Adult Education. I have taught in the Ontario secondary school system, I have facilitated online courses reaching adult learners worldwide, and I have worked substantially with newcomers to Canada running ESL, CELPIP, and IELTS programs. Other examples of courses I have previously taught: • English for multinational workplaces and global teams • English for journalists • English for IT specialists • English for foodies • English for travel • English Reading and Writing • English Listening and Speaking • Creative Writing in English • Ontario Secondary School Literacy Course A teacher by profession, I am first and foremost a lifelong learner acutely attuned to both the rewards and challenges one is bound to encounter on a learning journey. I work with adult learners and lessons are catered to the needs and expectations of each individual.
If you are interested in CELPIP or IELTS test preparation, we will work to leverage your English skills best to reach your target scores on the exam you choose to take. Depending on your score requirements, timeframe, and starting skillset, we will arrange an individualized course plan focusing on Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking as needed.
If you are interested in developing your English competency more generally—perhaps for work, for school, to participate in different communities, or just to make everyday tasks easier—we can discuss options to arrange a course and schedule that best suits your interests and needs.
My philosophy: We all bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to a learning environment. These are assets and resources to draw from to enhance our learning, collaboratively. I believe teaching and learning are reciprocal activities; one cannot be an effective teacher without also being a learner, nor can anyone, as a learner, help but be a teacher. With this in mind, I look forward to learning with everyone I work with.
