About Kathleen
After working as a registered nurse for over twenty years, I obtained TESOL certification because I wanted to become a tutor and work with students from other countries. My grandparents were immigrants from Greece and had a difficult time assimilating into the U.S. culture and learning the language. They would have benefitted from the assistance of a tutor.
I prefer tutoring one-on-one and face-to-face if possible, and enjoy developing a relationship with my students. My style is casual and flexible depending on the needs of the student which can change over time.
While I have worked with younger people (often the children of my students), I prefer to work with adults who have careers and need practical language skills in a new country.

My lessons are student-driven. I respond to the student's stated needs and base our lessons on what they'd like to accomplish.
For example, In the past I helped a student fill out a job application, and then we practiced interviewing so he would feel more comfortable applying for the job.
I also worked with a college professor who had studied English in China and wanted to learn how to speak with an American accent now that she was working in the U.S.
