About Kristian

I am a calm, approachable and engaging tutor specialising in CISI and professional finance qualifications, investing and financial markets. My aim is to make complex financial concepts clear and practical by combining exam-focused teaching with real-world examples from financial markets, portfolio management and investment strategy.

I have over 100 hours of tutoring experience and currently support a number of students preparing for CISI and other professional finance examinations. This includes students studying areas such as UK Financial Regulation, Securities, Derivatives, Investment and Risk, as well as candidates preparing for retakes who need targeted support to get over the pass mark.

My academic background includes a BA (Hons) in Law & Business Studies from the University of Liverpool and professional qualifications from the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment, including the CISI Level 4 Investment Advice Diploma and CISI Level 4 Certificate in Paraplanning.

Alongside tutoring, I have over 10 years of professional experience and work in senior leadership roles within FTSE 100 companies. My experience in financial markets and derivatives allows me to bring practical insight into lessons and explain how the concepts students encounter in their CISI studies apply in the real world.

I have supported students across different academic and professional levels, including helping a GCSE Business student improve from a predicted Grade 2 to a final Grade 9, and supporting a Business degree student with dissertation development who achieved a 2:1 classification.

My teaching style is calm, supportive and structured. For CISI students in particular, I focus not only on understanding the syllabus but also on question interpretation, exam technique, calculations where relevant and understanding why seemingly plausible alternative answers are incorrect.

Whether you are taking your first CISI examination, struggling with a particular module or preparing for a retake, I tailor the tuition around your individual starting point and exam timetable.

About the lesson

My CISI lessons are structured, practical and focused on passing the examination.

Every student starts from a different position, so I tailor the tuition around the specific CISI qualification, exam date, current level of knowledge and areas where the student is losing marks.

Where available, I encourage students to share their previous exam score report, mock results or practice-question performance. This allows us to identify weaker learning outcomes and spend lesson time where it can have the greatest impact rather than unnecessarily reteaching areas the student already understands.

A typical lesson combines:

Clear explanation of the underlying theory – breaking technical CISI material into manageable concepts.
Real-world application – connecting the syllabus to practical examples from financial markets, investments and derivatives.
Calculations and worked examples – working step-by-step through quantitative topics where relevant.
CISI-style question practice – applying the material immediately through realistic multiple-choice scenarios.
Exam technique – identifying trigger words, understanding what a question is actually testing and distinguishing between plausible answer choices.
Review and retrieval practice – regularly revisiting previous material to improve retention before the exam.

When working through questions, I don't simply provide the correct answer. I encourage students to explain why an answer is correct and why the alternative options are wrong. This helps identify whether a mistake comes from a genuine knowledge gap, misunderstanding the question or being caught by a strong distractor.

For students who have previously failed an examination, we can use their score report to create a targeted learning plan, concentrating on the weakest learning outcomes while maintaining stronger areas.

I can provide support across a range of CISI subjects, including UK Financial Regulation, Securities, Derivatives, Investment, Risk and Taxation, and other investment-related modules, depending on the qualification and student's requirements.

Lessons are normally 60 minutes, with longer or more intensive sessions available for candidates approaching an examination or retake.

I offer a free 30-45 minute introductory call before your first lesson. This gives us an opportunity to discuss the CISI qualification you are studying, your exam date, current progress and any areas you are finding particularly challenging.

If you have previously attempted the exam, we can also discuss your score breakdown and identify the areas that may need the most attention. From there, I can recommend how we structure the tuition and create a focused plan leading up to your exam.
