Uncle Bob is a respected tutor in our community. They are highly recommended for their commitment and the quality of their lessons. An excellent choice to progress with confidence.
About Uncle Bob
I’m Robert Brutus, known to my students as Uncle Bob—a classical guitar teacher based in Plattsmouth, Nebraska, and a member of the Music Teachers National Association (MTNA) and Better Business Bureau (BBB).
I welcome children, adults, retirees, and returning players. My approach is patient, encouraging, and structured, with clear explanations and achievable steps that help you build confidence.
Although I teach through a classical, Suzuki-informed method, your musical interests are welcome. Whether you enjoy country, rock, blues, pop, or classical music, strong technique, music reading, rhythm, and musical understanding provide a foundation you can carry into the music you love.
I offer three ways to begin: personal instruction at my local studio, nationwide online Self-Directed Study, and Sight Reader for learning to read guitar notation. My goal is to help you understand what you are learning, practice with purpose, and enjoy your progress.

Build a classical foundation for the music you love. My instruction develops technique, music reading, rhythm, listening, and musical expression through a structured progression. Beginners are welcome, and returning players can strengthen their fundamentals.
Choose the option that fits your location, schedule, and goals:
**Local Studio Lessons — Plattsmouth, Nebraska**
Receive personal, in-person instruction with immediate feedback on posture, hand position, tone, and technique. Children, adults, and retirees are welcome. Practice assignments and dashboard tools support your learning between visits. The studio serves students within approximately 20 miles of Plattsmouth.

**Self-Directed Study — Nationwide Online**
Study from home on your own schedule, without a required weekly appointment. Follow a structured curriculum from Suzuki Guitar Book 1 through Book 9, with videos, assignments, and practice tools. Advance after an assessment with Uncle Bob, and book optional private help when needed. This is guided independent study rather than weekly live instruction.

**Sight Reader — Learn to Read Guitar Music**
Connect written notes to their positions on the guitar. Begin with illustrated introductions to notation, strings, finger names, and rhythm, then read Suzuki Book 1 pieces one line at a time. Identify highlighted notes and see the corresponding string, fret, and fingering. Work at your own pace without a timer.

Tell me what music inspires you, your experience level, and how you prefer to learn. Together, we can choose a suitable starting point.

Uncle Bob has a very inviting atmosphere. My two boys (11 and 13) look forward to lessons. Uncle Bob is very patient and has an exceptional method of teaching new beginners.
I had a lot of bad habits from trying to teach myself guitar from online videos. After starting lessons, I was not only helped with finding a better guitar. He also helped with fixing all my bad habits, learning how to read music, and exercises that now give me hope that I can play guitar. Thank you! I would recommend to anyone.
Uncle Bob is a top-tier guitarist & an even better instructor. My 6 year old daughter (5 when she started) & I have been taking lessons with Uncle Bob for over a year now. His patience & ability to teach my daughter never ceases to amaze me. His lifelong experience, enthusiasm, and love for the guitar make him the perfect person to take lessons from. 10/10!
