About Cody
As a working musician, father, and all-around avid hobbyist, I love to devote myself to the things in my life that are truly important. I view every lesson as an opportunity to learn, challenge myself, and grow as a teacher and in my day-to-day life. I have played music since 2008, when I joined my middle school band as a percussionist, then switched to saxophonist. I hold a Bachelor of Music degree in Music Composition from the University of North Texas, and have had my works premiered all over the world. During my time at North Texas, I took private lessons in saxophone, piano, and voice, and studied advanced theory and composition as part of my degree program. Despite everything, I still love to perform and take every opportunity to play music for everybody in my life

At all ages, my lessons begin with a composition and theory-based approach. We spend time talking about music, form, and function to gain a greater understanding of the art. Musical concepts are often-repeated, so what is learned once can be applied again and again, and I use this to establish and build upon a solid foundation so that we can make reasonable strides toward the student's goals. In addition, my lessons are goal-focused, and I make sure that everything we learn builds toward a single goal. Whether the student wants to improvise, write for an ensemble, or play a specific piece, we build toward that goal at a steady pace that challenges the student without overwhelming them.
