About Fatma Nur

Hi! I'm Fatma Nur. I'm 20 years old and I am continuing my undergraduate education in Performing Arts at Istanbul Yeni Yüzyıl University. I really enjoy sharing the strong diction, correct breath control, and phonetic knowledge that my theater training gave me with my students who want to learn Turkish as a foreign language! Outside of theater, I have many cultural and artistic interests that feed my life. Since I like keeping my connection with art diverse, I am interested in modern dance, and I take great pleasure in playing the guitar and singing. At the same time, to enrich my literary and visual world, I do analytical readings of world classics; I love watching plenty of movies, TV series, and the old cartoons that always inspire me. On top of all this, I have a great curiosity about discovering new languages and cultures. Thanks to this curiosity and my desire to communicate with different cultures, I had the chance to take part actively in multicultural projects by working in the coordination teams of international programs.

About the lesson

During the English lessons I conducted for two years, I helped students overcome their speaking barriers using a drama-focused approach. Now, I am transferring this language teaching experience and student-centered approach to teaching my native language, Turkish.

My goal is not for my students to just sit and listen passively, but to truly experience and live the Turkish language. Thanks to the drama techniques I use in our lessons, we break through that famous "speaking barrier." My main goal is to help my students express themselves in a brand-new language much more comfortably, without feeling any pressure, and most importantly, with confidence. While our priority is always practice and speaking Turkish fluently, we never skip grammar and vocabulary studies for a solid foundation. However, instead of making students memorize grammar rules with boring formulas, I hide them inside games, roleplays, and daily life scenarios. This way, I help them learn grammar within the natural melody of the language.
