About Stephen
I first started teaching English in Bogota, Colombia, in South America. There I taught English to Colombian children as my day job and at nights I sometimes taught adults in evening classes.
On returning to the UK I decided that I prefer teaching adults, and have done so ever since. I have taught classes, large and small, at every level from beginners to advanced. I have also taught IELTS, Business English, and Academic Writing. I have taught privately for many years, usually to advanced level speakers who wish to improve their fluency in spoken or written English.
I aim to make every lesson memorable and have helped many students to achieve high grades in their assignments and examinations, but I have also taught many adults who were improving their English in order to perform better in their workplace, or simply in order to be able to live their lives in the UK more fully.

When teaching English to most students, I prefer the classes to be structured around a course book, but I include as much classroom discussion as the students are prepared to participate in. I some times include music to vary the interest but the focus is always on learning, using and practising new phrases and vocabulary. I have taught undergraduates and master's students study skills and academic writing at higher education college and university level.
I believe in encouraging students to ask and answer questions as a way of engaging with the lesson and deriving maximum benefit. I believe I am kind and patient and strive to provide a stimulating and thought-provoking environment for the student.
