About Wynand

My name is Wynand (Wayne), a South African expat with vast tutoring experience. I'm a Chartered Global Management Accountant (CGMA/CIMA) with 7 years banking experience and I offer Accounting and Business related tutoring. Having passed my Board Exams (Professional Competency) while in full time employment of a high paced International Financial Institution taught me that academic performance does not solely rely on an individual's understanding of the subject matter but requires practice, mental preparation and mentoring. Its this holistic approach to education that has seen my students achieve remarkable results.

Teaching, tutoring and mentoring has always been a passion of mine and I look forward to helping you reach your full potential.

Note that I'm currently in the process of immigrating to Toronto (estimated arrival Jan 2019) so for now I only offer online tutoring

About the lesson

Having tutored extensively during my tenure as a full-time student and mentored throughout my professional career, I have developed a very effective tutoring model based on the principle of continuous feedback loops. I treat each student different by determining strengths and weaknesses, while adapting my personalised lessons accordingly.

A typical lesson would consist of the following;
- Establishing a common objective of the lesson - usually done prior to the session (What do you want to achieve in the short-term? - just so that we are on the same page, and I can prepare thoroughly)
- Mental preparation (Why do you want to achieve this objective, fear, concerns, etc? - this motivates and focuses students)
- Big picture thinking (How does this fit into the greater syllabus? - Its this systems approach that allows students to at a later stage integrate different topics into one comprehensive solution)
- Theoretical tutoring (An opportunity to explain theory to students and link theory with practical examples)
- Practical examples (Tests a student's understanding of the theory and perform revision on developmental areas.
- Conclusion and review (here we review the lesson objective, the students understanding of how it fits into the greater syllabus, understanding of developmental areas and remedial actions to follow, exam techniques and tips)

I encourage my students to attempt as many practical examples/papers as possible - making mistakes and learning from those mistakes are more important that getting everything right first time in the run-up to exams.
