About Reece

I’m an Economics and Management graduate from the University of Hull, with experience in corporate finance, business operations and running my own businesses.

Before going into business myself, I worked for a large organisation where I was involved in financial planning, investment decisions and managing substantial budgets. Part of my role involved running a monthly investment committee, where I was responsible for coordinating, reviewing and consolidating capital expenditure proposals as part of a wider £360 million budget.

Since then, I’ve gone on to run my own businesses, dealing with everything from marketing, finance and day-to-day operations to international trade and commercial negotiations. I’ve also negotiated six-figure savings with overseas suppliers, dealing with language barriers and the challenges of working across different countries.

I started tutoring whilst I was at university and worked with a few students studying Business and Economics. One of those students went from an E to a B at A-Level, which was a particularly good result.

I’ve always enjoyed Business and Economics because they’re subjects you can actually relate to everyday life. Whether it’s inflation, interest rates, international trade or how a business makes money, there’s usually a much better way of explaining it than simply reading from a textbook.

I’m fairly straightforward in how I approach things. I enjoy a good discussion, don’t mind being challenged and would much rather someone ask me ten questions than sit there pretending they understand something.

I wouldn’t say I’m your typical tutor, and that’s probably a good thing. I’ve studied the subjects, worked in the corporate world and experienced the realities of running a business myself.

I’m now looking to take on a small number of students alongside my existing business commitments. I’m not looking to fill every hour of the week with lessons. I’d rather work with a few students properly, get to know how they learn and hopefully make a real difference to their results.

I offer something a little different from your typical tutoring lesson.

I’m an Economics and Management graduate, have previously worked in corporate finance and business operations for large organisations, and currently run my own businesses. I can teach the theory, but more importantly, I can explain how it actually works in practice.

I also have previous tutoring experience from my time at university, including helping an A-Level student improve from a grade E to a B.

My approach to teaching

I’m not the sort of tutor who’s going to ask your child to turn to page 46, read a chapter and complete a few questions. They can do that themselves.

I want students to understand what they’re learning, why it matters and, most importantly, how to apply that knowledge to achieve better results.

Lessons are tailored to each student and follow the relevant exam board specification. We’ll focus on understanding the subject, developing exam technique, improving analysis and evaluation, and learning how to turn knowledge into marks.

Every student learns differently. Some need practical examples, others benefit from discussion or working through questions together. I’ll adapt my approach depending on what works best for your child.

I’m also a firm believer that understanding something properly is far more valuable than simply memorising an answer. If a student can explain a concept in their own words and apply it to a situation they’ve never seen before, that’s when I know they’re making progress.

Your first lesson is completely free

I’ll use this session to get to know your child, assess their current understanding, identify any weaknesses and establish which teaching methods work best for them.

We’ll look at their current specification, academic performance and what they’re hoping to achieve. I’ll also spend time working through a topic with them so they can get a proper feel for how I teach.

Following the session, I’ll give you my assessment of where they’re at, what needs improving and how I believe we should approach future lessons.

There’s absolutely no obligation to continue.

What I expect from students

I can provide the knowledge, experience, explanations, exam techniques and support. I’ll prepare properly, take the time to explain difficult topics and do everything I reasonably can to help your child improve.

However, tutoring works both ways.

Your child needs to be willing to learn, engage in lessons and put the work in outside of them too.

I’m not going to promise every student an A or A*. Nobody can guarantee that. What I can promise is that I’ll put the effort in and expect the same commitment in return.

Whether your child is struggling with the basics or already achieving good grades and looking to push themselves further, I’ll tailor the lessons accordingly.

Why choose me?

I think there’s a real advantage in learning from someone who’s been there, done it and worn the T-shirt.

I’ve studied Economics and Management at university, worked in corporate finance and business operations for large organisations, and gone on to run my own businesses.

Throughout my career, I’ve been involved in things that students are often only introduced to through textbooks.

I’ve negotiated six-figure savings with overseas suppliers, dealing with language barriers, cultural differences and the challenges of international business.

In a previous corporate role, I was responsible for coordinating a monthly investment committee, helping to review, consolidate and organise capital expenditure proposals and budgets totalling approximately £260 million for consideration and approval.

I’ve also been involved in commercial negotiations, financial planning, managing budgets, pricing strategies, marketing and making decisions that have real financial consequences.

These aren’t just theories I’ve studied. They’re things I’ve actually had to deal with.

So when your child is learning about international trade, exchange rates, investment decisions, economies of scale or financial management, I can explain how these things work from my own experience.

That’s not to take anything away from traditional teachers. But I do believe there’s a difference between understanding a subject academically and having spent years applying that knowledge in the real world.

I can bring both to the table.

I offer online tuition as well as face-to-face lessons, including home visits where suitable.

Home tuition is subject to location and availability, with an additional travel fee depending on distance. Any additional charges will always be agreed beforehand.

I deliberately keep my availability limited so I can give each student the time, preparation and attention they deserve.

Ultimately, I’m not interested in having someone sit through an hour of boring teaching just to collect a fee.

I want your child to finish each lesson having learnt something, understood something they previously struggled with and feeling more confident about what they’re capable of achieving.

Whether they’re working towards a pass, aiming for an A or A*, or preparing for university, I’ll do my best to help them get there.

I’ll bring the knowledge, experience and commitment. All I ask is that your child brings the willingness to learn.

If that sounds like the sort of approach you’re looking for, get in touch and we can arrange your free first lesson.
