About Deborah

Music has stood the test of time. I have found new and different ways to continue participating in this passage of time by adapting to new teaching methods. I adapt to the student's learning style. With a masters in counseling as well, my training in psychology helps me to do this.

I hold an A.A.S. in Occupational Music, and a B.S. in Music Business. I also have a M.S. in Counseling which I believe helps me to interact with students on a higher level, analysing their misunderstanding of information more quickly. I taught as an Adjunct Faculty Member at the Milwaukee Area Technical College for 24 years in the Music Department. I covered topics of Music Reading, Music Appreciation, Music Business, Piano 1 & 2, Choir, and Voice Lessons. I spent 8 years in the Milwaukee Public School District as a Traveling Instrumental Music Teacher teaching Violin, Viola, Cello, String Bass, and Piano. Privately I have taught these instruments and a few others over 4 decades in studios and from my home since age 14.

About the lesson

I like to introduce myself and get to know the student's musical background and musical interests. Favorite subjects outside of music are important as well as I can often relate aspects of music to things more familiar to the student. I like to think of musical knowlege as building blocks. Music is very mathematical in nature. Building upon simpler knowledge helps the student to be successful. If there are aspects missing in their pallat of information, then a review and re-education of the missing information is necessary to help the student be successful.
