About Justin

My name is Justin Webster. I began tennis at age 8 and have been hooked ever since. I love watching, playing and, of course, teaching. I was captain of the back to back conference champion Varsity Tennis Team at my high school. I was the ranked Fourth on the teams roster and the being captain gave me the opportunity to teach freshman the basics of the game if their experience was lacking. I was the number 1 seeded player on my USTA team. Furthermore, I played 2 years of club Tennis for East Carolina University. I'm looking to teach beginners of all ages. Thank you for considering me and I look forward to working with you.

The thing I enjoy the most about teaching tennis is the students sense of accomplishment. The feeling they get when successfully place that first inside out shot to the corner or they send their first overhand above the heads of their opponents. It's a game where those with natural ability truly can be overtaken in an instant solely because of the hard work of the guy/girl across the net.

I've taught a lot of players for free in last 5 years. It started my first year as a captain in my Junior year of high school tennis. I taught underclassmen in groups and individually. From there I moved on to teach middle schoolers in the area that expressed interest in our team.

I played on the Varsity Tennis team all 4 years of High School. I was a captain for my Junior and Senior years and was a conference champion for back to back years. I also played on the club tennis team at East Carolina University. I participated in 4 tournaments in that time. I am currently working on getting my certification through the Professional Tennis Registry (PTR).

I'll be teaching beginners so I have a basic itenary in mind. The course will consist of about 5 items. I'll begin with the very basics with forehands and backhands as item 1. Item 2 will be serves; developing a basic technique that suits the athlete. By the end of item 2 students should be able to play a low level match. Next item 3 will introduce lobs and volleys to give the students some more strategic options. Item 4 will move to placement focusing on cross court and straight shots. Finally item 5 will cover overhands, slices, and basic progressions. It will also expand upon the students serve. The time it takes to complete all of these items will likely be different for each student. Most students will struggle in at least one of these 5 basic areas. However, I believe mastering these skills in this order will a great start to any players tennis career.

I've worked with students if Various ages. I'm willing to teach anyone who is interested I  learning the sport or just wants to start getting active.

Students, what you want in a teacher is one with some sort of plan in mind. You don't want someone who's just going to take you to the court throw balls at you with little to no instruction. To be honest, that's a lot of what I see from young people and their coaches. Tennis is a complicated sport and, as such, it should be taught in an organized and deliberate way. The itenary I presented before was something that I took time to develop to benefit student progression.
