About Charles

I am a film composer, pianist and music educator with a BA (Hons.) in Western Music, specializing in piano. My professional work in composition shapes the way I teach: students learn not only how to play notes, but how rhythm, harmony, expression and musical storytelling work together.

I offer a focused, personal learning experience for children, teenagers and adults. Whether you are beginning from scratch, returning to the piano, preparing for examinations or exploring composition, I will help you develop strong technique, musical understanding and the confidence to express yourself independently.

About the lesson

Every student receives a personalised learning pathway based on their level, goals and musical interests. Lessons combine piano technique, sight-reading, rhythm, ear training, music theory and expressive performance.

A typical class includes:
• technique and warm-up work
• review of current repertoire
• focused improvement of one musical skill
• theory, harmony or ear-training exercises
• clear practice goals for the following week

Students interested in composition can also explore harmony, arranging, melody writing and musical storytelling. I teach complete beginners, hobbyists, examination candidates and serious learners who want to understand music deeply rather than simply memorise songs.

Perfect! My son has been learning piano from Mr. Charles, and we have been very happy with his teaching. He is patient, friendly, and explains everything clearly, which has helped my son become more confident and interested in playing the piano. I especially appreciate the way he understands my son’s pace and encourages him to improve without putting unnecessary pressure on him. We have seen good progress in his playing since he started the lessons. I would definitely recommend Mr. Charles to anyone looking for a dedicated and supportive piano teacher.

Perfect! I enrolled my younger brother in Mr. Charles’s online piano lessons recently, and it has been such a great experience. Mr. Charles is honestly wonderful with him- so patient, encouraging, and clear in his teaching. My brother used to get frustrated easily with practice, but now he actually looks forward to sitting down at the keyboard every week. His attention to detail and ability to keep a young learner engaged through a screen is truly impressive. We’ve already noticed a huge jump in my brother’s confidence and playing ability. I couldn't be happier with our choice !

Charles's response
Nehaan did really well in the very first class itself; his grasping power is pretty good; I could say that from the way he understood the theory topics when I explained him.
