About Yoana
Hello! I am a passionate, highly experienced music tutor specialising in the GCSE Music curriculum. GCSE Music is a wonderfully rewarding subject, but its unique mix of academic theory, active listening, and creative practical work requires a highly strategic approach to secure the top grades.
I have a proven track record of helping students excel under pressure. Notably, I have successfully prepared and mentored students from elite musical backgrounds, including St Margaret’s School (Bushey) and the world-renowned Purcell School, helping them secure outstanding results (Grade 9) in their music evaluations.
Whether you are aiming for a conservatory path or looking to boost your academic profile with a stellar creative grade, I will provide the exact tools, structure, and confidence you need to succeed.

My lessons are meticulously structured around the three core assessment components of the syllabuses to ensure no marks are left on the table:
1. Component 1: Understanding & Listening (40% of your grade)
The written exam can be intimidating, but we will break down the four core Areas of Study so they become second nature:
Western Classical Tradition (1650–1910): Master the compulsory study pieces (such as Haydn’s Clock Symphony and Baroque Oratorios) and learn to identify structural features.
Popular Music: Deep dive into the classic songwriting of legends like Queen and the Beatles, as well as musicals and gaming soundtracks.
Traditional & World Music: Navigate Blues, Fusion, and Contemporary Folk with ease.
Classical since 1910: Demystify Minimalism and 20th-century orchestral masterpieces.
Bonus Focus: Intensive training in musical dictation, score reading, and structuring high-scoring 8-mark extended writing questions using precise musical vocabulary.
2. Component 2: Performing Music (30% of your grade)
Repertoire Selection: We will select the absolute best solo and ensemble pieces for your instrument or voice, targeting pieces equivalent to Grade 5 standard to unlock maximum difficulty marks.
Exam Polishing: We focus on technical accuracy, rhythmic fluency, and expressive interpretation to make your performance stand out to external moderators.
3. Component 3: Composing Music (30% of your grade)
The Briefs: Learn how to write compelling compositions—both a free-choice piece and a second piece tailored to the officially released exam briefs.
Music Technology: Gain confidence using sequencing software (such as Logic Pro, or MuseScore) to assemble your tracks.
The Programme Note: I will help you write the perfect 150-word commentary detailing your creative intentions and use of musical elements.
My Methodology
Tailored to You: No two musicians learn the exact same way. I adapt my teaching pace directly to your strengths, focusing heavily on bridging any gaps in your music theory foundation.
Resource-Rich Training: You will gain exclusive access to comprehensive analysis booklets, past exam papers, custom mock listening exercises, and active recall flashcards.
Confidence-Driven: I don't just teach you to memorise; I teach you to think like a composer and an analyst, reducing exam anxiety and preparing you to walk into the exam hall with absolute confidence.

Great help with my son's GCSE! I contacted Yoana literally a month before my son's GCSE music exam. He had worked with other tutors in the past, but we both felt he was unprepared and he was starting to lose confidence. He tried a few past papers and became confused and started to hate his lessons at school. Just after one lesson with Yoana, Saavan's concentration improved so much that he signed up for more lessons. He did exceptionally well in his exam. He got a 9! Her lessons were engaging and fun, full of music and follow-up at-home activities that yielded impressive results. I couldn't recommend her more!
Great Lessons! As an adult, I lacked confidence, but now I enjoy singing, have a clear goal and can't wait for my weekly lessons. Truly recommended! ️️️️️
Great teacher! Loved my lesson!️️️️️
Great Lesson! Looking forward to my next!
Yoana is absolutely wonderful. She delivers the lessons in a way that is so fun and engaging for my 7-year-old child. My daughter actually looks forward to her practice now because Yoana makes her feel like a little star! Fully recommended!
I was a bit nervous about taking singing lessons online, but Yoana made me feel comfortable right away.
She has helped me so much with the basics, like how to breathe properly and how to hit higher notes without my voice feeling tired.
The lessons are really well-organised, so I always feel like I’m actually getting better, but we still have a lot of fun!Finding a teacher who can actually bridge the gap between classical technique and modern styles is rare, but Yoana does it effortlessly. I started lessons with her 5 years ago to improve my singing, and I was blown away by her depth of knowledge. She catches the tiny technical details that other teachers miss, but she explains them in a way that’s easy to grasp.
Her lessons are the perfect mix of structure and fun. I never feel overwhelmed, and I actually look forward to our sessions every week. I can’t recommend Yoana enough!I have been with Yoana for several years now. I am having weekly singing lessons with Yoana and so is my 8 year old daughter. We both love our lessons and Yoana is such an amazing teacher. She tailors her lessons so perfectly and answers any questions we have. She is such a knowledgeable, kind and caring teacher. If there is ever a need to change a lesson, then they are so accommodating and will do this for you.
