About Maxim

With a lifelong passion for music and math, I started playing piano at age 5 and composing at 13. I hold a double major in Music Theory & Composition and Mathematics from New York University. Having won competitions in both composition and piano myself, I’m committed to helping my students achieve their own successes. I have also achieved perfect scores on the SAT math section, SAT Math level 2 subject test, and a 5 in both AP AB and BC Calculus as well as the highest mark in the Carnegie Hall Royal Conservatory's Achievement Program for level 5 and 6. I tailor lessons to each student’s needs, fostering a supportive environment that encourages creativity and questions. I prioritize clear communication and use high-quality equipment for a seamless online experience.

About the lesson

Music Composition (Beginner to collegiate level):
Warm-Up: Review a previously composed piece.
Feedback: Discuss and critique student compositions.
New Material: Introduce a specific compositional technique (e.g., motif development).
Wrap-Up: Set goals for composition until the next lesson.

Music Theory (Beginner to collegiate level):
Warm-Up: Review last week’s homework.
New Material: Introduce a new concept (e.g., harmonic progressions).
Guided Practice: Analyze a piece using the new concept or work on worksheet.
Wrap-Up: Assign a written exercise on new material for next week.

Piano (Beginner to high school level):
Warm-Up: Finger exercises or scales.
Feedback: Discuss and critique student playing of current piece.
Guided Practice: Play the piece together, focusing on the critiques.
New Material: Introduce a new piece or technique (e.g., legato playing).
Wrap-Up: Set goals for practice until the next lesson.

Math (Beginner to high school level):
Warm-Up: Review last week’s homework.
New Material: Introduce a new topic (e.g., quadratic equations).
Guided Practice: Work through problems together or if student needs help with outside work.
Independent Practice: Assign similar problems for homework.

As someone who hadn’t touched a piano in years since taking lessons as a child, Maxim really helped me get back to speed on the basics and helped me to start playing my favorite pieces again quickly! I can’t recommend Maxim enough for complete beginners just starting out, or for individuals like me, that took a long hiatus and are ready to continue their piano journeys.
