About Laertis

I have been playing guitar, writing songs, performing live and as a solo act for 10 years. I also play and record vocals, bongos and bass guitar. Graduated from a 3 year music degree at ICMP where I studied music performance with guitar as the major instrument as well as composing for films & ensembles. I really enjoy composing and arranging I have been teaching since 2015 starting in my hometown Athens, Greece and the past 9 years in London and online around the world. I love sharing my knowledge and I am always learning new skills!

About the lesson

I offer lessons to all levels of musician, from beginner, intermediate or advanced on acoustic or electric guitar. My teaching methodology varies for each student. As a teacher I want to understand your wants, and then help you find your unique voice on the instrument. I appreciate people learn in many different ways. Depending on your wants and needs, I can adapt my teaching style to include as much or as little theory as you wish to learn. I believe as a student of music myself the key to an enjoyable and efficient development is to always combine theory with practical application. Otherwise theory is at risk of just being 'information' which doesn't translate to expression on the instrument. I can teach many different styles of guitar including: Jazz Latin Rock Pop Blues Folk I also offer lessons to students studying: Music Theory Guitar Grades Sight Reading for beginners Music Production Basics Bass Guitar basics Piano basics

Perfect! Recently started lessons with Laertis and really enjoyed them so far. He's really detailed and takes time to work out what your goals are then tailors the sessions accordingly so they are as valuable as possible. 1) When did you first develop a passion for music and your favourite instrument?
My passion for music was strongly evolved around the age of 11 when I also got an electric guitar and started learning how to play my favourite bands at the time - Black Sabbath, Metallica, Pink Floyd are a few of many.
2) Is there a particular type of music or artist that you listen to on a loop without it driving you crazy?
I feel that I could listen to Otis Redding all day long without any problem.
3) Explain to us the most difficult or riveting course you could personally give to a student of music.
A riveting task that sometimes can be a little bit difficult would be for someone (the student in that case) to create a melody or a few bars song from scratch and keep repeating it after its creation. Embracing what we create is not always an easy task.
4) What do you think is the most complicated instrument to master and why?
I think any instrument needs very hard work and dedication to master it. And by mastering it I mean being able to chanell as immediate as possible the emotions and thoughts into notes, as accurately as the mind wants to. It's a great communication of mind and physical skills with fingers, feet or mouth, depending on the instrument.
5) What are your keys to success?
My keys to success are the art of letting go and trusting any process that is required for this to happen.
6) Name three musicians you dream of meeting in your favourite bar in the early hours of the morning. Explain why.
Early hours of the morning in a bar sounds a little suspicious... but I would say Cesaria Evora, Jimi Hendrix and Manos Hadjidakis. I believe this would be a great group to conversate with and gain the energy a day needs me to have to carry on in life.
7) Provide a valuable anecdote related to music or your days at music school.
A guitar teacher once told me "When you learn something on the guitar and be able to play it off by heart, go and practice it again"
8) What are the little touches that make you a Superprof in music?
The creative thinking and urge of blending elements from different music genres.
