About Mike
I graduated from Royal Holloway, University of London, in 2012 with a degree in Geography with Politics and International Relations. After managing a tour company in Cambridge for several years, I completed a CELTA qualification in 2016 and moved to Japan to teach English. I have been passionate about ESOL ever since. I love the English language — both its versatility and its global appeal. I enjoy meeting people from all over the world and from all walks of life, and I’m committed to helping each of my students achieve their personal and professional goals.

In my 10 years of teaching ESOL, I have worked internationally in Japan, China, and Taiwan. My students have included business professionals, university students, and UK visa applicants. City & Guilds recently described my work as “exemplary.” I am passionate about helping students achieve their goals by providing tailored, focused lessons to suit their individual needs. I am a native British English speaker with a clear and refined Standard English accent. I can help with: Business English / Professional English IELTS preparation Visa application support Secure English Language Test (SELT) for UK visa applications Trinity Exams General English for life in the UK Lessons are 50 minutes long and can be either relaxed and conversational, or academic and structured — depending on your preferred learning style. I do not believe in using translations, I have learnt many ways to communicate across language barriers, translations have been proved to slow down language learning.
