About Chris
Hi, I'm Chris. I've been practising yoga and meditation for 28 years and teaching for 13 years. I teach vinyasa yoga from beginner to experienced level as well as Mindfulness Meditation from either a Buddhist and Secular approach. I also offer personal fitness training to help people achieve various goals - from overcoming a fear or dislike of exercise, to increase mobility, to help rehabilitate after injury as well as strengthening and increasing levels of fitness. I am a well recognised teacher and have been featured in the press (Tatler, Guardian, Telegraph) and teach classes regularly at Triyoga studios and Equinox fitness clubs as well as industry festivals - Balance, Sweatlife and Sweaty Betty. I divide my time between London and northern Tuscany where I offer yoga, meditation and hiking retreats from a historic mill hidden in the mountains. My passions are nature, movement and food. I love working with people one to one and small groups but equally love disappearing into the woods for quiet time. I am committed to an ALL bodies are GOOD bodies approach, both in yoga and personal training: Meaning increased fitness can be achieved in a kind, respectful and nurturing process with focus on movement and process and not size. Yes, I can offer help with weight loss where this is your goal, but it is not my agenda. I do not subscribe to before and after photographs. Yoga, meditation Classes and PT sessions will be tailored to your individual needs. Our first session will include defining those needs and goals. "Vinyasa" yoga means to "place in a special way." How this translates in a one to one class relates to the position and placement of the body as well as the actions, effort and softening of the body within that pose or "asana." Furthermore we have additional placing in a special way of the attention - focussing on the breath, sensation and action within the body and finally attention to the activity of the mind - responses, reactions, opinions, mind wandering, thoughts feelings and emotions. All of this happens at once, so it's no surprise that having clear and compassionate teacher is important when learning yoga. I teach people, not poses. kindness, humour and attention to detail go hand in hand. "Mindfulness" is the basic human ability to be fully present; aware of where we are and what we’re doing or experiencing, without reacting or judging, or changing what’s going on. While mindfulness is something we all naturally possess and experience, it’s more readily available to us when we practice on a daily basis. With practice we can recognise that our thoughts shape our emotions, our emotions can generate thoughts and none of our emotions or thoughts are fixed or permanent! Through consciously witnessing the natural fluctuations of our mind’s activity, we can relax stiff ideas find the benefits of mental strength, stability and clarity. While there are many apps and books on the subject, Mindfulness Meditation has traditionally been practised in groups or one to one with a teacher in order to keep the practise and techniques pure and effective. In my Mindfulness lessons, a student will have clear instruction, practise and the ability to ask questions and clarify the experience. I teach in studios and privately across London at triyoa studios, Equinox health clubs and at The Houses of Parliament. I also specialise in working with actors and whole casts for movies and theatre productions. I was very fortunate to study with Cyndi Lee, author and highly respected teacher. She was the first female teacher to fully integrate Yoga tuition and Buddhism. I owe immense gratitude to Cyndi, the teachings and the community she has created. Diploma Psychodynamic Counselling at WPF (Westminster Pastoral Foundation). BSc. Biology. University of Reading. I am fully insured and registered to teach yoga, meditation and to provide counselling and personal fitness training both online and in person.
