About Andrew
My passion in life lies in spending time with people, helping them achieve goals and solve problems which stems into my music and teaching. I taught music (drums/guitar/piano/vocals) for well over fifteen years to different age groups, from 5 years old to 50 years of age.
I also play as a drummer for a local SAMA award winning band called Jacobs Riot (formerly Shaun Jacobs Band) on a part-time basis, which I thoroughly enjoy as it allows me to work in a creative space. I try to stay in touch with this when I do anything at the workplace.
I tend to be quite analytical in nature and my ability to dissect ideas, pull out highlights and then put them together as something new is a skill I have honed over the years.

Student centred learning is definitely becoming popular in modern education. I find that this method works as a student's potential for learning relies heavily on what he or she already knows. I have seen that this affects what new information is important to the student, how he or she processes new information, as well as how he or she determines what is important. I find the students are more free and able to work at their own pace, starting at their ability level/base of knowledge.
As a teacher, I know that one of the most important parts of learning is reflection, having the students look back at what they learnt and how they learnt it, as well as where they need to go from here. I have found that a less teacher centred environment allows students more opportunities for this type of reflection on learning. The students are also more satisfied with their own work and how they have progressed, than if they just did what the teacher told them to do.
