About Tammie

Hi, I’m Tammie, a dedicated music tutor with a passion for music and a background in performance scholarships. I specialize in teaching bass clef reading and foundational skills for brass players—especially trombone, euphonium, and tuba students. With years of experience in both performing and teaching, I bring a structured, patient, and encouraging approach to every lesson. My goal is to help students not only read music with confidence but also understand it deeply and enjoy the process of learning. Whether you’re just starting out, preparing for auditions, or want to improve your technique and sight-reading, I’ll tailor each session to meet your goals and learning style. I pride myself on being approachable, reliable, and committed to helping each student succeed. Music can be both challenging and rewarding—I’m here to make it less intimidating and more enjoyable. Let’s work together to develop your skills and grow your confidence as a musician!

English

As a tutor, I take a clear, supportive, and individualized approach to teaching music—especially bass clef reading for brass players like trombone, euphonium, and tuba students. I believe that strong fundamentals build confident musicians, so I focus on clarity, repetition, and real-world musical application.

My teaching method combines music theory, sight-reading, ear training, and technical exercises tailored to your instrument. I adapt to each student’s pace and learning style, whether you're a beginner just learning notes or an intermediate player preparing for auditions.

A typical lesson includes:

Warm-ups and tone development

Bass clef reading practice with step-by-step guidance

Rhythm and articulation work

Sight-reading exercises

Review of solo, ensemble, or school band music

Q&A or reflection to reinforce learning

What sets me apart is my formal background in music (I hold a degree and received performance scholarships), along with my patient, encouraging teaching style. I emphasize not just what to play, but why—so students develop deeper musical understanding, not just memorization.

Lessons are ideal for:

Middle and high school brass players

Beginners learning bass clef for the first time

Students preparing for auditions, exams, or honor bands

Adult learners revisiting their instrument

My goal is to help each student feel more confident, skilled, and connected to the music they play.
