About Alissa
I am a nonprofit professional who often relies on written and verbal communication in my career. I have advanced degrees in Political Science (BA) and a Juris Doctor (JD) from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
I have been tutoring and supporting students learning English for over 5 years and in that time I have found it incredibly rewarding to assist students in mastering English and achieving their goals.
I understand that building confidence is essential and enjoy teaching from a strengths-based approach, so that students can master English.

I approach teaching English from a strengths-based approach, helping students to identify their goals, craft a roadmap, and to achieve their goals and master English as a second language.
I begin by assessing the strengths and learning opportunities for all students using a written and verbal assessment. From there, we tailor a series of lessons plans that increase mastery and help overcome challenge areas for students.
I like to utilize both visual (short videos), mainstream age-appropriate music (lyrics), reading, and conversation to help build up confidence in all areas of English.
I mainly work with students who have some elementary understanding of spoken English and would like to increase their ability to converse and write in English. My experience is with young people and adults over the age of 15.
