About Adam

I am a native English teacher from Indiana in the U.S. and I earned my Bachelor's degree in German and Global & International Studies from Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis in May 2018. Over the course of my degree, I garnered a wide variety of experiences including study abroad programs in Canada and Germany. In my last year of university, I was an undergraduate teaching assistant for the German department.

After earning my degree, I relocated to Valencia, Spain in September 2018 to teach English classes at a public primary school. I worked there for two consecutive school years, giving English classes to primary students from first to sixth grade. In 2020, I moved to Madrid, where I worked in a semi-private school for the 2020-2021 school year giving English classes to students ages preschool to secondary. Currently, I have relocated back to Valencia, where I will be working at my former primary school for the 2021-2022 school year. Additionally, I have been giving private English classes since I moved to Spain in 2018, and I have had a diverse range of students including children, teenagers, and adults.

No two students are the same, so I adapt my methodology to the specific needs of each student. I tailor my classes to help each student achieve their specific goals, and I like to use many different resources and forms of media that connect with each student's personal interests in order to facilitate the learning process.

Whether a student needs help with grammar, vocabulary, or conversation, I am here to help them feel confident in their English skills and strengthen their less developed areas. Every class is customized with the student's personal goals, and I carefully plan each lesson so that my students can achieve the results that they are looking for.

Additionally, I give Cambridge exam preparation classes. I can help students prepare for the KET, PET, First, or Advanced exams, and for these classes I can include a digital copy of the official Cambridge exam prep book at no additional charge.

I give in-person classes, but I prefer all of them to be online due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Therefore, I charge 25€/hour for in-person classes and 20€/hour for online classes.

3 students - 40€/hour in-person (35€/hour online)

➙ CANCELLATIONS
If you cancel a class within less than 24 hours, you will owe 50% of the class.

    I was born and raised in the United States, so English is my native language. Language learning is one of my greatest passions, so teaching my own language to others is something that I have naturally always been interested in. As a language learner myself, I understand my students' perspective and the challenges they may face as they navigate the English language.

    One famous person who I think is a good representation of American culture is the late Ruth Bader Ginsburg. She was a judge who served on the United States Supreme Court and fought tenaciously for social justice, especially for women's rights. I truly admire her persistence and compassion, and her dedication is something that I strive to emulate in my own work and life.

    Learning any language is important, but I believe that English is especially crucial in today's global society. As the world gets "smaller", English becomes more essential as it often serves as a common denominator between people of different cultures and backgrounds. Proficiency in English can help people when they travel to new places, meet new people, and explore new opportunities.


    Students come to me with a variety of different goals. Young learners, for example, often need to make good grades at school and pass exams. On the other hand, many of my adult students wish to have better communication with their clients or their coworkers. Others are jobseekers who are exploring new career paths. In order to achieve any of these goals, English proficiency is a key component.

  • ¿Cuál es la principal dificultad de esta lengua y qué aspecto podría ayudar a aprenderla con más facilidad?

    English can be difficult for several reasons. I would say that one of the biggest challenges is the difference between the written and spoken language. Many words in English have tricky spellings, so written English is not always intuitive. Pronunciation can also be very difficult for this reason. I always encourage my students to watch films or series in English with the subtitles on. This way, they can listen to the pronunciation and see the written words at the same time. In addition, it helps them learn new vocabulary and colloquial expressions.

    One of my very first students was a medical doctor who sought to improve her English because she often saw English-speaking patients at her practice. We practiced mock medical consultations, and I made up symptoms and asked questions as if I were her patient. In the end, she told me that her consultations began to go much more smoothly and that she finally felt comfortable to speak freely in English with her patients. My experience with this student was especially rewarding because I could see her make improvements along the way and eventually reach her desired goal.

    Traveling has always been important to me, and I have taken trips to several different countries. One of my favorite trips that I've taken was to Morocco in April 2019. This was a really special trip for me, because it was my first time traveling completely on my own. I learned a lot about myself on this trip, and it really forced me to step out of my comfort zone. I made many memories and met a lot of great people on that trip.

    I do my best to give 100% to every one of my students. Each of my classes is carefully personalized based on every student's individual needs and goals, and I also select activities and resources based on their respective interests. Learning a new language is not an easy task, so I always support my students and motivate them to keep going.
