I like to be flexible with my teaching methods as I feel it's important to adapt to the particular needs of the individual, but I usually find regular testing and reviewing works really well to consolidate what has been learnt. Really getting a good idea of what the tutee wants help or support with is important from the outset, and then from there I like to have plan in place to work towards the tutee's goal.
I am a Music graduate with a Bachelors and Masters from the University of Oxford and love tutoring music theory and academic music as well as the violin and viola. I have been tutoring since 2014 and have had a wide range of students from aged 6 to 56 and from absolute beginner to university student.
I teach academic music, including Music GCSE, Music A Level, University-level Music History, and Music Theory (up to ABRSM Grade 5), but equally pre-GCSE Music and Music to those not wanting to work towards any particular level but who just want to learn for fun.
Jo has had over six years' experience tutoring music at GCSE, A-level, and university levels, as well as teaching violin, viola, and music theory. She always conducts herself very professionally, and is responsible and mature. She is very friendly and helpful when giving lessons, which boosts her students' confidence, and she also shows great care and thoughtfulness in preparing her lessons.
