About Makjam Khanum
Are you aiming for an A or A* in A-Level Psychology, or do you understand the content but struggle to turn that knowledge into marks?
I specialise in helping Pearson Edexcel A-Level Psychology students improve both their subject understanding and their exam performance.
I achieved the highest national scores in A-Level Psychology and Law, and I am currently studying a double degree in Psychology and Law at Macquarie University. I also have several years of tutoring experience and have worked with students with a wide range of academic abilities, learning styles and goals.
My teaching is highly personalised and exam-focused. I first identify exactly where marks are being lost and then build lessons around those areas. Depending on your needs, we may focus on difficult psychological concepts and studies, AO1/AO2/AO3 skills, command words, application and evaluation, essay planning, exam-style questions, past papers, mock-exam feedback or revision strategies.
I work with students who are struggling with Psychology as well as high-achieving students aiming for A/A* grades. My goal is not simply to help you memorise more content, but to teach you how to turn what you know into marks.
I place a strong emphasis on helping students understand why an answer gains or loses marks, how to structure stronger responses, and how to approach unfamiliar exam questions with greater confidence.
The free 30-minute introductory session gives us the opportunity to discuss your current grade, target grade, areas of difficulty and upcoming assessments. I can then identify the areas that need the most attention and create a clear, personalised plan for our lessons.

Every student is different, so I do not use a one-size-fits-all lesson plan.
Lessons are structured around the areas that will make the greatest difference to your progress. We may begin by clarifying a difficult topic, move into active recall or application, and then use exam-style questions to practise turning knowledge into high-quality answers.
A major focus of my teaching is exam technique. Knowing Psychology is only part of achieving a top grade; students also need to understand what different questions are asking, how to select relevant material, how to develop evaluation, and how to communicate their knowledge clearly under exam conditions.
I can also provide detailed feedback on practice answers and help students understand why an answer is gaining or losing marks, rather than simply giving them a model response to memorise.
My goal is for students to become increasingly independent and confident: understanding the content, recognising what examiners are looking for, and knowing how to approach unfamiliar questions strategically.
Whether you are trying to move from a struggling grade to a secure pass, from a B to an A, or are already performing strongly and aiming for an A*, our lessons will be built around the specific gap between where you are now and where you want to be.
