About Laura
I have been a graduate teaching assistant for a year at Durham University, teaching undergraduate students music analysis and writing skills. I also have three-years' worth of experience tutoring primary school students in music theory and practical piano, both privately and at a cathedral chorister school. Students have achieved distinction in ABRSM practical exam (both diploma and graded), as well as improved their grade in analysis by a tier or two (e.g. from 2:2 to 2:1, 2:1 to 1st, etc.) within two months.

I base theory lessons on the ABRSM syllabus. At university level, my specialty is the 18th and early 19th centuries, particularly Mozart, Haydn and Beethoven.
As a tutor, I work best with students who are motivated and disciplined. I encourage students to think creatively and systematically. Theory and principles are only starting points, and I believe that students achieve their full potential only by being curious and hard-working. I always start a lesson by going over theoretical principles that have been learnt, take questions (if any), then move on to case studies that are tailored to the student's ability.
