About DA
Pianist, composer, and conductor DAKIM explores the intersection of traditional and experimental approaches, with a focus on shaping her own distinctive musical voice through texture, gesture, structure, and the expressive possibilities of sound.
She earned her bachelor’s degree from the Korea National University of Arts. She is currently pursuing a Master of Music in Composition at the Manhattan School of Music. Her current work explores ways to integrate East Asian musical aesthetics with Western instrumentation.
Beyond contemporary classical music, her compositional practice extends to traditional Korean music, musical theater, and film. She is also interested in interdisciplinary approaches that explore connections between music and visual art, including painting, video, and AI-generated imagery.
As she continues to develop as a conductor, she is expanding her musical practice through work with both choral and instrumental ensembles. Her conducting experiences have deepened her awareness of musical communication and interpretation, bringing new perspectives to the way she approaches composition. Through these interconnected roles, she continues to experience music in different ways, broadening her musical understanding.
