About Alexander

Lessons at Skinner Music Tuition are led by pianist, saxophonist, and clarinettist Alexander Skinner who graduated from the Marian University Department of Music and Drama. Alexander has performed at renowned venues worldwide, including A-Trane Jazz Club in Berlin, Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club, 91 Living Room, Toulouse Lautrec Jazz Club, Oliver’s Jazz Bar, and Boogie Woogie Jazz Club (Seoul). He balances music education with performing alongside London's best and direction his own ensembles and projects.

Alexander is passionate about delivering the very best music education available. He does this by offering a highly tailored service to each of his students because “no two students are the same and no two people want the same thing from music”. He is accepting piano students of all ages and all abilities who want to get a secure foundation in piano or deepen their understanding of music. “I started Skinner Music Tuition with the goal of offering the very best music education available to fill in the learning gaps I was seeing first-hand as a music teacher in London schools. Whether you are a beginner looking to start piano for the first time or a student applying for music college or a professional looking for new ideas, I know I have the tools to help you.”

About the lesson

My focus is on building well-rounded musicians who can read, write, and play music without sheet music. With my piano lessons, you will gain a deep understanding of rhythm, harmony, pitch and music literacy while still focused on making music.

Alex and I play together in a professional standard Jazz band. Not only is he of course incredibly accomplished and dedicated to his art (I have seen him shred on Jam sessions all over London!), but also he is a great teacher. In a collaborative learning environment where we were practicing new tunes he combined kindness and knowledge to explain new ideas. He would make for a very caring and adept Saxophone teacher.

Early 2022 I bought a Saxophone, by the end of 2022 I found a tutor, Alex who has helped me tap into my passion for playing the saxophone. I’m learning skills that I thought would take me a long time to develop, such as learning by ear and reading music. I’m already learning to play Candy by Cameo, which is a family favourite, goal is to play this at upcoming family gathering in 2023.

As a beginner Alex has helped me to find joy in the process of learning and staying motivated and determined to enjoy the music as I learn. It's true that with the right tutor, you are never too old to pursue your passions and learn something new. I have no hesitation in recommending Alex to others who want to connect with music and the beautiful sound of the saxophone.

I’m certain I’ll continue to improve and enjoy playing the saxophone for years to come, I see this as a long term enriching personal development.
