About Emil

Hi! I’m Emil and I am a multi-instrumentalist based in Weybridge/London, studying part-time at the Guildhall School of Music.

In Person lessons

I like to discuss your goals (via text or phone call) before our first lesson. This allows me to tailor a (performance-based) plan for us to work with.

I offer continued support between lessons, I understand many of my pupils live very busy lives. I aim to make our progress as consistent as possible, I like to make my inbox available for queries that I answer within 24 hours to give you extra guidance and ensure bad habits are avoided.

To ensure I am committed and personal, I only take a small cohort of students at any given time.

Based in Weybridge/City of London, I can travel in a 5km radius to the comfort of your own home, alternatively I can tutor online.

Online mentoring

I am pleased to announce I now offer online improvisation mentoring for any instrument! With a specialism in jazz but learning applicable techniques to blues, funk, soul, rock and many more! Your initial consultation is free and your money back after the first month if you are not satisfied.

About the lesson

My teaching ethos could be summarised as "it’s not what it’s how". Often we place far too much importance on what scales, licks, or repertoire we can work on when the best musical practitioners are so creative and disciplined in methods that the content of their practice comes out in their playing in very inventive ways. My goal is to give you the tools to self-teach and the way we work with material in our lesson will reflect this. With a greater emphasis on aural training I have found greater success in developing a more versatile musician; and indeed this gives you more freedom for future musical direction.

The most important skills I hold are not only in music but in knowing common errors, their fixes and my listening ability (both as an educator and student of music). Further afield I have an understanding of special educational needs/autistic spectrum disorder from working as a Learning support assistant in years 3 and 4 in schools for more than a year, making me an educationally adaptable teacher which further emphasises my individualised approach.

Whilst undertaking my BSc in Mathematics at the University of St Andrews, I was concurrently a jazz piano scholar with Honorary Professor of Jazz Richard Michael during my 4-year degree, and am now on the Guildhall artist master's programme for Jazz Saxophone.

In conjunction with music tuition for your child I also offer maths tuition up to GCSE, it's often said maths and music go hand in hand

Throughout my pedagogical career my focus has been on the introduction and early education in keyboard, jazz saxophone, music theory and small group jazz workshops.
