About Jamie

I am an academic law tutor specialising in legal reasoning, essay writing, and critical analysis. I have a background in Scots law, EU law, and international law. My research examines complex socio-legal frameworks and required the development of precise, structured arguments to explain how law functions in practice. I have a particular interest in international investment law, socio-legal studies, and legal methodology. I help students move beyond surface-level understanding to produce clear, well-argued written work and perform effectively in examinations. This includes developing the ability to apply case law, structure persuasive answers, analyse competing arguments, and engage with socio-legal or theoretical approaches where required. I also work with non-native English speakers to strengthen academic writing, improve clarity and grammar, and develop the confidence to express complex legal ideas effectively in English. My teaching is methodical, rigorous, and adapted to each student’s level, course requirements, and objectives.

About the lesson

I have two years’ teaching experience at a Scottish university, where I taught several undergraduate modules, including Criminal Law, Delict, and Succession. I have also tutored students in the Law of Evidence, as well as International and European Tax Law. I also have extensive experience teaching English as a Second Language (ESL), including academic writing and advanced communication skills.

I offer both one-off lessons and ongoing tutoring, with a particular focus on long-term academic improvement.

The first lesson is offered free of charge and is used as an introductory consultation to discuss your academic goals, current challenges, course requirements, and whether my teaching approach is the right fit for your needs. It may also include a brief initial assessment and guidance on the most effective way to progress. If you decide to continue, you can then book lessons for targeted support, essay writing, exam preparation, legal reasoning, or written work review. If written work review is required, you may send your essay or assignment in advance. I would use the booked lesson time (typically 30–60 minutes, depending on length and complexity) to review the work carefully, prepare feedback, and identify areas for improvement. Feedback would then be shared with you, and if you would like to discuss it in detail or work further on structure, clarity, argumentation, grammar, or future assignments, you can book an additional lesson for guided support. My aim is to provide structured, practical teaching that improves confidence, performance, and independent academic skills.
