About Julia
I've taught English as an additional language for 30+ years with migrants, refugees, international students and kids! I've tutored privately, taught in language schools from beginners to advanced English and IELTS and direct entry programs in universities. I have qualifications in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages, primary and adult education and counselling. I've also focused on bringing together my love of psychology and education to help students manage stress and nerves, as this was something that held me back for many years.

I'm Julia Williams, a passionate, dedicated teacher with over thirty years' experience helping others to excel in their academic and professional lives, blending English skills with the mindset needed to tackle academic and personal life challenges. PRONUNCIATION MASTER - With over 30 years' experience in ESL, teaching students from a wide range of countries, I have a good understanding of the errors common to each language (e.g. Spanish speakers pronouncing 'y' not 'j' 'sh' not 'ch'/ Brazilians initial 'r'/final 'ed', Thai speakers - the tight jaw/ Most Asians the 'r'. FOR IELTS we begin with a test, completed prior to our first lesson for homework, to get a band score so I know where to focus our efforts. I have all the secrets to share to assist in increasing your band scores in each area, especially your weakest ones. I have recipes/format of each type of writing task (1 & 2, general and academic) and I have countless resources I can email you. Each lesson will be full of tips to put into practice during your homework - yes there is homework! (Generally, for the average learner to increase a band score by 1 takes 12 weeks of full-time IELTS study so I will demand homework otherwise you are wasting your money on lessons and the test.) CONFIDENCE & the ability to CONTROL NERVES is an integral part of success whether you're speaking, doing an exam at university or IELTS, attending a job interview or doing a presentation in front of your colleagues. As a qualified counsellor I can teach you to manage the nerves so you perform well JOB INTERVIEWS & WORK-RELATED TASKS. The process of gaining employment in your field as well as how interviews are conducted varies greatly between countries. We can edit your resume and practice interview techniques. Once you've landed the job, ongoing support can be provided to tackle things like professional-sounding emails and reports through to how to deliver an outstanding presentation. I also have a great sense of humor so classes are fun as well as productive (With IELTS, we need a laugh.)

Details
Lessons are available after hours on weeknights and occasionally on weekends. If you need me to travel to you, there will be an additional cost, based on distance to cover time and running expenses. After your first free lesson, you can decide on whether to pay for individual lessons or a bundle to save money. All tuition fees go directly into my account as I don't have PayPal.
