About Bronwen
I have been teaching music since I was twelve years old, and it is my greatest passion!
I have taught undergraduate courses at Yale University, for which I am currently completing my Ph.D. in music theory. These classes ranged from basic musicianship to advanced music theory and music history classes in popular and classical music.
Prior to my years at Yale, I studied and taught music performance (piano and oboe), and hold a master's and undergraduate degree from the University of Manitoba's Desautels Faculty of Music.
No matter which area of music I have focused on, I have found myself learning by teaching, and gravitating toward individual mentorship (with customized lesson plans for each student).

In my 26 years of experience teaching music, I have yet to find two students who learn the same way and benefit from the same instruction! My lessons are completely individualized to meet each student's needs.
Whether in group lessons or individual mentorship, I like to build from each student's strengths and passions for music to help them make breakthroughs in other areas with confidence and courage.
I specialize in multi-disciplinary learning, how knowledge about music links up to our knowledge in other disciplines. Whether teaching academics, advanced performance, or beginners, my approach draws from leading theories in music cognition, focusing on embodiment (how we move to music, how music makes us feel, and how we can use our bodily senses to ground our knowledge of music).
