About Huzefa

I'm a qualified ACCA and CPA with well over a decade of experience in accounting and finance. Between 2013 and 2015, I coached students working toward their ACCA designation at a professional coaching institute — every student I worked with passed, and one of them placed among the top scorers worldwide on a professional ACCA paper. Since then I've stayed close to teaching alongside my finance career, and I still enjoy nothing more than helping someone get past the parts of accounting that seem intimidating on paper but really aren't once they click.

About the lesson

I know accounting can feel like a wall of jargon and rules that don't seem to connect to anything real — I've watched a lot of students hit that wall, and I've spent years helping them get past it. My lessons are practical and conversational, built around real examples rather than just definitions, so the concepts actually stick instead of just getting memorized for an exam.

When and why did you develop an interest in your chosen field?
I first developed an interest in accounting back in my first year of college. The subject came naturally to me and was made easier because of the expert guidance of my professors and tutors.
What makes you passionate about your subject?
While I wasn't the best at math and other numerical subjects growing up - accounting picked my interest due to its logical approach and universal applicability. I think the real-life applications of accounting and the way it tries to encapsulate the challenges faced by businesses is what makes me passionate about the subject.
What do you like about tutoring? What makes you a "Superprof"?
Plain and simple - I like helping people understand the subject better. My teaching philosophy is to make my lesson plans relatable. In many cases, when a student can't identify with the material, it's harder for them to gather meaning. To make the subject more relatable I modify the matter with live examples or formats that the student is more comfortable with/recognises more easily. For eg - a student of mine with a chemistry background had difficulty in understanding the life cycle of inventory. To make this more relatable to her background - i structured the life cycle of inventory in a linear equation format where it was easier to 'solve for X rather than try to figure out the purchases expense for the year. I believe this kind of teaching plan tailoring for my students is what makes me a 'super prof'.
Do you have any role models; or teachers that inspired you? Please explain.
I became a teacher because of my college accounting teacher's impact on my life. Math and other numeric centric subjects don't come naturally to me, but she took the time not only to explain the material in a way that made sense to me but also helped me understand that every form of intelligence is equally valuable. There's no job more important than teaching the future leaders of our world the information they need to know, but more importantly, showing them their worth, their potential, and their ability to form their own opinions by thinking critically and observing the world around them. She was the best role model I had and I look back at her teaching methods to guide the way i teach my students too.
What are your keys to success?
I believe that students want their teachers to be dedicated and approachable, and they can tell when a teacher doesn't possess these qualities. If students know you're working hard and want to support them as they learn, they're more likely to succeed. For this reason, I keep an 'open-door' policy where students can reach out to me on my personal cell phone at any time and through this, I strive to build rapport with each student. Dedication to my student's success is my key to success.
